The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has extended voting hours in the ongoing local government elections, adding two extra hours to compensate for earlier delays. Originally set to end at 3:00 p.m., voting in affected areas will now close at 5:00 p.m.
The extension follows setbacks including delayed delivery of sensitive election materials and technical issues with the Voter Verification System (VVS). PLASIEC has since switched to manual registers and assured voters that the process is back on track.
Chairman Plangji Cishak affirmed PLASIEC’s commitment to ensuring that no eligible voter is denied the opportunity to cast their vote, reassuring the public that every vote will count. He thanked citizens for their patience, emphasizing the commission’s dedication to a free, fair, and transparent election process. Further updates are expected as the situation progresses.
