The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has unveiled its 2025 Bye-Laws, marking the first comprehensive review of the authority’s regulatory framework in 21 years.

The new bye-laws were officially launched by the Chairman of the FAAN Board, Umar Ganduje, who commended the management for successfully reviewing the legal framework to reflect current realities in the aviation industry. He described the revised bye-laws as a significant milestone that will strengthen airport governance and enhance operational efficiency across the authority.

Speaking at the unveiling, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of FAAN, Olubunmi Kuku, said the previous bye-laws, last reviewed in 2005, had become outdated and were no longer effective in addressing the demands of the modern aviation environment.

She explained that the 2025 Bye-Laws were developed in line with current aviation realities and FAAN’s evolving operational framework to ensure the Authority remains responsive to emerging challenges and global best practices.

According to Mrs Kuku, the revised bye-laws will serve as a comprehensive operational guide for FAAN staff, airport users, stakeholders and relevant partners, while promoting safer, more secure and commercially viable airport operations across the country’s airport network.

She added that the new framework reinforces FAAN’s commitment to regulatory compliance, operational excellence and improved service delivery in Nigeria’s aviation sector.

The Bosun Tijani Foundation has opened applications for the second cohort of its Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) Fellowship, expanding efforts to develop AI talent in Nigeria amid growing demand for skilled professionals in the country’s digital economy.

The six-month fellowship is targeted at young Nigerians interested in artificial intelligence and is designed to provide practical training in generative AI through hands-on learning, mentorship and collaborative projects.

According to the foundation, the second cohort will offer two learning tracks, AI Engineering and AI Application Development, covering areas such as machine learning, model fine-tuning, MLOps, cloud deployment, API integration and product design.

Training will take place in Abeokuta and Kano, with participants expected to receive mentorship, work on real-world projects and access career support.

Announcing the call for applications, the foundation said the new cohort builds on the success of its inaugural programme in 2025, which trained more than 80 fellows.

“Building on the success of our first cohort of over 80 fellows in 2025, we are excited to once again open this opportunity to young Nigerians who are passionate about Artificial Intelligence and committed to building solutions that address real-world challenges,” the foundation said.

The foundation added that fellows will undergo six months of practical learning focused on Generative AI while becoming part of a growing network of innovators developing technology-driven solutions.

“Through the six-month Fellowship, participants will gain hands-on learning, mentorship, and practical experience in Generative AI while joining a growing community of innovators shaping Nigeria’s digital future,” it stated.

The organisation encouraged aspiring participants to apply to deepen their AI skills, collaborate with other technology builders and contribute to the next wave of innovation.

The fellowship is part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s AI ecosystem through skills development and innovation. The first cohort was launched in partnership with the Ogun State Government in 2025 as a six-month initiative aimed at equipping aspiring developers with practical artificial intelligence skills.

The programme also comes as Nigeria intensifies its national AI ambitions. In recent months, the Federal Government has advanced initiatives around artificial intelligence, including work on a proposed National AI Trust intended to support responsible AI development and governance.

Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, has continued to advocate for positioning Nigeria as a leading AI hub in Africa through investments in digital skills, innovation and responsible AI adoption.
