19 terrorists eliminated, 23 hostages freed: Nigerian Army
Troops of the Nigerian Army rescued 23 kidnapped victims and neutralised 19 terrorists in separate operations across the country in the last 24 hours, between Monday and Tuesday, according to operational reports.
The report said the troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA rescued 18 persons kidnapped from their residence at Sabon Gari, Kaura Namoda council area of Zamfara.
It said the troops responded to a distress report, engaged the terrorists and forced them to flee, abandoning all 18 victims who were rescued unharmed.
The report further revealed that troops had in another operation rescued a kidnapped victim at the outskirts of Kukawa Village in Kanam council area of Plateau.
According to the report, the victim told troops he was abducted from Duguri in Bauchi on Thursday and was subsequently handed over to the village head.
“Also in Plateau, troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) neutralised a terrorist and recovered an AK-47 rifle and two rounds of ammunition. The operation followed intelligence from an arrested suspected bandit, who led troops to a location at Nwur Village, Shendam Local Government Area.
“In Kebbi, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA neutralised 18 terrorists during an attack on Mobile Police Special Intervention Squad personnel at Makuku, Sakaba Local Government Area. The troops also destroyed five motorcycles and recovered two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles in a separate clearance operation in Plateau,” he said.
The report said the troops of Operation HADIN KAI rescued five people who escaped from a terrorist enclave in the Mandara Mountains area of Borno.
He said the escapees were sighted by troops of 82 Division Task Force Battalion during a patrol along the Amuda Bridge–Ngoshe-Gava road in Gwoza council area.
It added that the five victims reportedly escaped the enclave following disagreements among terrorists and the abandonment of the camp by some fighters.
According to the military, troops of 82 Division and 103 Battalion recovered four AK-47 rifles, seven magazines and 133 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition from a kidnappers’ hideout in Umuchingu Ujenike Forest in Enugu.

Nigerian-born rugby youngster Immanuel Feyi-Waboso has been tipped to excel with England’s national team in days to come, especially during next year’s global showpiece, Sports247 reports.
The verdict came from the winger’s coach at Exeter RC, Rob Baxter, who believes 23-year-old Feyi-Waboso will be a revelation at next year’s Rugby World Cup if he can keep fit throughout this season.
Baxter’s verdict came while recollecting that Feyi-Waboso helped The Chiefs reach last season’s English Rugby Premiership final but later on missed the Six Nations series after suffering a hamstring injury in February.
Feyi-Waboso also missed the final game of the season and Exeter’s play-off semi-final win at Bath, after fracturing his jaw in a game away to Leicester at the end of May, all of which Baxter noted slowed down his progress.
However, with the lad having returned to action with Exeter at Twickenham and then starred for England in their Nations Championship matches, Baxter is optimistic that his protégé can reach greater heights next year.
“I think if he can really put a run of games together, he could be quite a force come World Cup time because he is an exceptional player. There are areas of his game where time improves some of those elements.
“If he can put a good run together, I think it’d be quite exciting what England might see from him both in the autumn and during the World Cup later in the year,” Baxter reasoned glowingly in favour of Feyi-Waboso.
Sports247 gathered further that Feyi-Waboso played 28 games for club and country in 2024, the most since his breakthrough the year before, but the following season was blighted by a shoulder injury he suffered just before Christmas.
That injury kept him out until the summer of 2025, but he returned last season to score 13 tries in all competitions, as Exeter made the play-offs for the first time since 2021 and reached the semi-finals of the European Challenge Cup.
