A tragic road accident in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State has claimed the lives of six people and left nine others injured.
The incident occurred at about 5:30 a.m. on January 4 at the Shendam Road junction, when a trailer truck carrying about 400 bags of unprocessed rice reportedly lost control and veered off the road.
The vehicle was said to be en route from Yelwa-Shendam to Kano State.
Victims identified in the crash include Samaila Dahiru from Katsina State; Sanusi Ladan Yelwa of Toro Local Government Area, Bauchi State; Abubakar Sa’id from Dass Local Government Area, Bauchi State; and Zaradeen Makama from Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State. Police said two other victims have yet to be identified.
Nine survivors sustained injuries of varying degrees and are currently receiving medical treatment.
Following a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Langtang North promptly deployed officers to the scene to secure the area. With the support of officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and members of the public, the injured were evacuated to the General Hospital in Langtang North for urgent medical attention.
The bodies of the deceased were released to their families for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
