Plateau: Reps Bagos express sadness, describes killings of 21 persons in Heipang as barbaric

In a grim turn of events, the tranquility of Heipang in the Barkin Ladi Local Government of Plateau State was shattered on Thursday morning as 21 lives were brutally extinguished in an act of violence that has left the entire community reeling in shock and grief.

The Honorable Dachung Musa Bagos, a dedicated representative of the Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, expressed profound sorrow over the tragic loss of life. As the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Science and Technology, Rep. Bagos issued a poignant press statement in which he denounced the killings as barbaric and reprehensible. He emphasized the incomprehensible nature of innocent and peaceful Plateau citizens falling victim to such a horrifying fate while they were asleep. The Representative stressed that this senseless violence is an affront to the collective conscience of the people.

With an unwavering commitment to justice, Rep. Bagos called upon the state’s security agencies to swiftly take action and apprehend those responsible for this heinous act. The task of safeguarding lives and property rests heavily on these agencies, and Rep. Bagos insisted that the perpetrators must face the full force of the law

Tragically, the bloodshed in Plateau State has become an all-too-familiar reality, with innocent citizens facing daily attacks and loss of life, particularly in Barkin Ladi and Mangu, Riyom. Since the onset of May 2023, hundreds have fallen victim to the wave of violence that has swept the region. Vital agricultural activities have been disrupted, with villagers too afraid to venture onto their own fields. Displaced persons now crowd into camps, while the very land they once called home falls under threat and farmlands lay in ruin, portraying a chilling portrait of the dire situation.

Barely a week has passed since five lives were lost in Mangu, and today’s early morning hours brought yet another horrifying tragedy. Around 1:00 am, assailants descended upon unsuspecting constituents, leaving 21 individuals dead in an unprovoked assault that has been widely condemned as both tragic and barbaric.

In an impassioned plea for unity and vigilance, Rep. Bagos reiterated his call for all Plateau citizens to stand together against these violent aggressors. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding their cherished homeland and ensuring its safety.

The words of Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos echo as a poignant reminder of the urgent need for action and solidarity in the face of mounting adversity. As Plateau State mourns the loss of 21 lives, his resolute message serves as a rallying cry to protect, preserve, and ensure a safer future for all.
