Plateau United’s consultant and former Nigerian international, Benedict Akwuegbu, has expressed confidence in the club’s chances of clinching the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title in the 2025/26 season.
Speaking on a monitored radio program, Akwuegbu stated that with the right preparations and recruitment of quality players, Plateau United has what it takes to emerge champions and bring the trophy back to Jos.
“Plateau United deserves to be among the top three clubs in the country. If we do our things right, we can even win the title,” he said. “Let us focus on winning the league this season, and I think Plateau United can do it with the coach and General Manager.”
The ex-international emphasized the need to address lapses that cost the team valuable points in the previous season, particularly conceding goals in the closing minutes of games.
“We conceded goals in the last minutes in about three to five games in the second half of last season. That’s something we have to fix,” he noted. “Let this be the season we bring the title to Jos. We need to strengthen the squad with quality and top players.”
Akwuegbu remains optimistic that Plateau United is poised for a stronger campaign, with all eyes on lifting the NPFL trophy in the upcoming season.
