Masquerades invade Church in Plateau, Police and CAN begins investigation

Chaos ensued as some masquerades in Shikal village of Lantang South Local Government Area of Plateau State invaded a Church on Sunday 18th September 2022, flogging worshippers and the pastor.

It was gathered that the masquerades arrived at the Church premises, interrupted the Sunday service, and destroyed the Church’s musical equipment as worshippers scampered for safety.

According to a source, the church members were shocked and surprised by the action of the masquerades, saying that members did not take any counter-offensive action, but gathered to salvage what was left of their properties by the invaders.

The source explained, “Elders of the village are making efforts to get to the root of the matter in order to restore normalcy.”

However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, confirmed the incident but gave no details.

He said: “The DPO of the area has confirmed that it is true. They are working on the situation and the area is calm. He said masquerades went to a church and disrupted their activities. The investigation is ongoing, we will give full details when we have them.”

Meanwhile, the Plateau State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) said on Sunday that it had begun investigating the alleged invasion.

It is worthy of note that a similar event occurred in Ondo State, on 18th September 2015.
