Gunmen Kill Commercial Motorcyclist Near Rukuba Barracks in Plateau

Gunmen have killed a commercial motorcyclist, identified as Monday Mbah, in the Agingi community of Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State.

The incident occurred on Monday evening near the gate of the Rukuba Barracks in the Agingi Kisaloi area. Eyewitnesses said Mbah was ambushed around 7 pm while riding his motorcycle, after which his attackers shot him and made away with his bike.

A resident, Mary Hassan, who confirmed the attack, said the sound of gunshots was heard shortly before Mbah’s lifeless body was discovered.

“When Mbah was ambushed near the gate of the barracks, his motorcycle was stolen afterwards. He was an okada rider, and the unfortunate incident happened around 7 pm,” Hassan said.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, was unavailable as his mobile line was switched off. However, sources at the police headquarters in Jos confirmed that the victim’s body had been evacuated from the scene.

“We are aware of the unfortunate incident. But the corpse is no longer there,” a source said.

The killing adds to a string of violent incidents across Plateau State in recent times. In April, over 50 people were killed during an attack on the Irigwe community in Zikke, Kwall District of Bassa LGA.

Meanwhile, the Plateau State Government has continued efforts to curb insecurity, with Governor Caleb Mutfwang reiterating his administration’s resolve to restore peace. Measures introduced include the deployment of troops to vulnerable areas, as well as restrictions on night grazing and the transportation of cattle by vehicle after 7 pm.
