From Rural Roots to Exam Guru: Meet Dr. Dangut

Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, a man whose journey began under the starry skies of Mbar District in Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State, boasts a life filled with academic accolades and a passion for continuous learning. Born on October 2, 1967, he embarked on his educational odyssey at Government Secondary School, Riyom, and later Government Science School, Kuru, both in Plateau State. His academic prowess culminated in a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production from the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, in 1991.

Fueling his unquenchable thirst for knowledge, Dr. Dangut earned a Master of Science in Animal Science from the renowned University of Ibadan in 1994. Undeterred, he pursued higher education, attaining a Doctor of Philosophy in Animal Science from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in 2017, and later, a Master of Education in Administration and Planning in 2020 from the National Open University of Nigeria.

In the crucible of his career, Dr. Dangut’s commitment to excellence manifested during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) days (1991/1992). Recognized for innovative teaching and empowering local farmers, he garnered the prestigious Award for Meritorious Service from both the Ondo State Government and Akoko South-West Local Government.

Officially launching his professional journey in 1994 at St. Louis College, Jos, Dr. Dangut soon found himself contributing significantly to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). Joining in 1998 as an Assistant Registrar, he steadily climbed the ranks, achieving the position of Deputy Registrar in April 2018. His dedication was acknowledged with the Nigeria Examinations Committee’s commendation for transparent examination conduct between 2000 and 2006.

Dr. Dangut’s diverse roles at WAEC included serving as Assistant Registrar/Subject Officer, Test Development Division; Senior Assistant Registrar/Branch Controller in Uyo, Bauchi, and Yola; and ultimately as Deputy Registrar/Zonal Coordinator at Ikeja Zonal Office. Over the past twenty-five years, he harnessed Information and Communications Technology to revolutionize processes in Test Development, Administration, and Post Test Activities.

 

An erudite scholar, Dr. Dangut boasts an impressive array of educational publications in international and national journals. He is a sought-after speaker, having delivered numerous keynotes and papers at international and national conferences. Beyond the academic realm, he finds solace in swimming, tennis, and his love for farming. Actively participating in the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) and the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM), he epitomizes a holistic professional.

Now at the helm as the Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC, Dr. Dangut’s journey continues to inspire. Married and blessed with children, he exemplifies the perfect blend of academic prowess, leadership, and a zest for life.
