Brigadier General Yusuf Ali, Coordinator of Operation Safe Corridor (OSC), has dismissed viral reports suggesting that deradicalized terrorists and bandits are being enlisted into the Nigerian Armed Forces.

General Ali made the clarification on Wednesday during a one-day media dialogue with OSC leadership, organized by the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) in Abuja, describing the claims as “entirely false and has no basis.”

He explained that the Nigerian security apparatus follows a structured process for screening military recruits. Repentant terrorists, particularly those classified as high-risk, are not reintegrated into society without judicial clearance. “Aside from the judiciary, security agencies conduct their screenings before individuals are classified as either low-risk or high-risk,” he said. High-risk individuals are processed through the normal criminal justice system and, if convicted, sentenced accordingly.

“There is no military, paramilitary, or any security agency recruiting former fighters or surrendered terrorists into the system,” General Ali added, noting that recruitment procedures are publicly published and regulated by the armed forces act.

Speaking at the event, CDD Director Dauda Garuba commended the Nigerian military for their sacrifices in protecting lives and property, noting that their efforts have contributed to halting attacks on critical facilities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
