University of Jos Alumni Association Announces Golden Jubilee Plans, Calls for Global Celebration

As the University of Jos marks 50 years of academic excellence, transformation, and national impact, the University of Jos Alumni Association (UJAA) has unveiled plans to commemorate the institution’s Golden Jubilee with a series of events scheduled to begin in September 2025.

In a statement issued from the Office of the President of the UJAA, Global President Gad Shamaki Peter described the university’s journey since 1975 as one built on “sweat, struggle, and relentless perseverance.” He noted that the university, which began as a vision nurtured by a few pioneers, has grown into a prestigious institution producing influential figures across sectors, both in Nigeria and around the world.

“From critical thinkers to creative minds, from fearless leaders to innovative problem-solvers, the story of Great Josites is one of excellence and resilience,” Shamaki said.

The alumni president emphasized that the 50th anniversary is not merely a celebration but a moment of collective reflection and gratitude. He stated that the UJAA national executive will be working closely with university management and stakeholders to craft a comprehensive calendar of events to mark the Golden Jubilee.

“This is a call to every Josite, both at home and abroad—let us come together to honour the university that shaped us, inspired us, and sent us into the world as champions,” he urged.

According to the association, the upcoming events will involve chapter executives, class and set leaders, distinguished alumni, and friends of the university from various professions. The planned celebrations are expected to reflect the vibrancy and unity of the Josite spirit.

“A broad-based programme of events will be shared in the coming weeks. This will be a collective celebration, and your voice, your ideas, your energy, and your resources will be vital,” Shamaki added.

The statement concludes with a rallying cry: “Let the world hear it—the shout, songs, and sounds of Great Josites rising again and again… because this is more than an anniversary. It’s a legacy. A legacy worth celebrating.”

The University of Jos, established in 1975, has since become one of Nigeria’s leading higher institutions, known for academic integrity and producing graduates who contribute meaningfully to society.
