Thinking Machines wants to build an AI that actually listens while it talks

Thinking Machines Lab, the AI startup founded last year by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, on Monday announced something called interaction models, which, at its essence, sounds like AI that can interrupt you.

Right now, every AI model you’ve ever used works the same way. You talk, it listens. It responds, you listen. Thinking Machines is trying to change that by building a model that processes your input and generates a response at the same time, so it’s more like a phone call than a text chain.

The technical term for this is “full duplex,” and the company claims its model, TML-Interaction-Small, responds in 0.40 seconds, which is roughly the speed of natural human conversation and significantly faster than comparable models from OpenAI and Google.

Still, this is a research preview, not a product. The company isn’t releasing it to the public yet. A “limited research preview” is coming in the next few months, it says, with a wider release set for later this year.

So what to make of it? We’re not sure. The benchmarks are impressive and the underlying idea — that interactivity should be native to a model, not bolted on — is definitely interesting. Whether the real-world experience lives up to the technical claims is something we won’t know until people can actually use it.

2027: Nigerians must come together, throw Tinubu out – Buba Galadima

A Chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Buba Galadima, has said that Nigerians must come together and vote out president Bola Tinubu.

This was as he alleged that Tinubu is making things difficult for other political parties to produce candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He spoke during the inauguration of the NDC National Reconciliation Committee set up to resolve post-primary election disputes ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He further stated that the Electoral Act was designed and perfected by President Tinubu even before it was taken to the National Assembly.

“Tinubu is only protecting himself and the APC and making it difficult for other parties to produce candidates.

“The president is not thinking of a contest with anybody, but we won’t allow it. Even if it’s an empty coffin, all Nigerians must come together and throw him out for the sake of this country,” he said.

2027: We’ll back Wike’s Rainbow Coalition, Tinubu in Rivers – Fubara’s ally, Chidioke Ihunwo

A former Chairman of the Caretaker Committee in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chijioke Ihunwo, has promised to back the candidates of the Rainbow Coalition and President Bola Tinubu’s reelection.

Ihunwo, who is a staunch ally of Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State, said his decision followed the governor’s call for reconciliation and unity.

Featuring on TVC’s Beyond the Headlines, Ihunwo said he was following Fubara’s instructions to back the coalition.

The Rainbow Coalition is a political group in Rivers State headed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

However, he said, “Our governor has said there is peace in Rivers State and that we need to move forward.” If you really back him, you need to stand with him in the Rainbow Coalition. That is what we are doing to bring peace back to our state.

“I am following the governor because he is my principal. No matter what he tells me to do, I will follow his instructions. We are going to work together to make sure every member of the Rainbow Coalition gets elected, including President.”

Ihunwo said the governor has told his supporters to back Tinubu and all the candidates from the coalition.

He said he would return to Obio/Akpor to mobilise support for the coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
