As echoes of delight, excitement, hope and satisfaction continue trailing Saturday’s maiden outing of Templar-Adrenale National Basketball Combine project, one of the participants, Muhammed Abdulmalik is relishing the experience.

The tall youngster told Sports247 in an exclusive chat during the programme at Dolphins Sports Complex in Mangoro area of Lagos that the day’s activities exposed him to basics of the giants’ game that he expects to meet as a professional.

He noted further how skills and ideas that would be seen while playing in USA’s National Basketball Association (NBA) were also rolled out during Saturday’s event, which he said is the first of its kind in Nigeria.

Abdulmalik eulogised the organisers, saying: “This programme is very nice. It has never happened like this in Nigeria before now. This is the first time they will organise something like this in Nigeria.

“It’s a very great programme and I’m happy to be part of it. It’s a very big achievement for me and something that prepares us for the future.

“It makes us prepared for an opportunity to make it big in the NBA Combine. We are now used to some things that we will face when we get there.”

He concluded by heaping plaudits on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s senior special assistant on grassroots sports development, Prince Adeboye Anthony Adeyinka, who organised the programme in collaboration with Templar-Adrenale.

“It’s a great opportunity for young players like me. This is something that is good for any young player to come and showcase himself.

“Any ambitious player should be here and make the best of it,” Abdulmalik advocated, while serving a strong hint that he has received extra motivation to take basketball as a career.

Sports247 reports further that over 200 young basketball talents turned up for the programme that also attracted senior players, scouts, coaches, corporate representatives, parents and stakeholders among the guests.

Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has criticised former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Isa Ali Pantami over his past description of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as an “infidel party”, while reaffirming his long-standing loyalty to the opposition party.

Lamido made the remarks while receiving PDP governorship candidates from Gombe, Bauchi, Kano, Yobe and Jigawa states at his residence in Bamaina, Jigawa State, on Saturday.

Reflecting on the PDP’s years in power, Lamido said the party was repeatedly criticised by political opponents and some Islamic preachers.

“The PDP was labelled corrupt, and some even described it as an ‘infidel party.’ Despite all that, I remained in the party because it gave me the opportunity to serve Nigeria as Minister of Foreign Affairs and twice as Governor of Jigawa State,” he said.

The former governor disclosed that after the 2015 general elections, senior figures in the All Progressives Congress (APC), including former President Muhammadu Buhari, President Bola Tinubu and former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, visited him in Dutse to persuade him to join the ruling party.

“I told them I could not abandon the party that made me who I am. Instead, I challenged them to come and join the PDP,” Lamido stated.

He also recalled that Pantami, while serving as Chief Imam of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Jumu’ah Mosque, allegedly delivered sermons in which he prayed against the PDP and referred to it as an “infidel party.”

According to Lamido, Pantami later joined the PDP after failing to secure the APC governorship ticket in Gombe State, a move that generated widespread public debate.

Pantami has not publicly responded to Lamido’s latest comments.

The exchange comes as political realignments and defections gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
