Plateau to clear N11.5b salary backlog with N15b loan

The Plateau State Government yesterday said it had approached United Bank for Africa (UBA), not Jaiz Bank, for an N15 billion loan.

It explained that the loan would be used to settle the state’s N11.5 billion salary backlog allegedly accumulated by the previous administration.

The government added that the balance would be used to procure fertilizer for farmers for the current farming season.

It said the decision followed the Mutfwang administration’s desire to fulfill its campaign promises to civil servants and farmers.

The government in a statement issued in Jos by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Legislative Duties, Nuhu Abok, urged the public to disregard social media reports claiming that the state government was already processing such a loan from Jaiz Bank.

“The loan being processed is to be used to settle the N11.5 billion salary backlog as accumulated by the previous administration and the rest will be used for procurement of fertilizer for farmers,” Abok said.
