PEPSA Intensifies Drainage Clearance and Flood Response Across Jos
The Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA) has intensified its flood response efforts across Jos, with ongoing desilting and drainage clearance exercises aimed at improving the free flow of stormwater and reducing the impact of flash flooding in vulnerable communities.
As part of the intervention, the Director General of the Agency, Mr Samuel Dapiya conducted an inspection of critical locations to assess conditions on the ground and coordinate immediate response efforts following recent rainfall.
One of the sites visited was the drainage corridor from Miango Junction to Educare Private School, where PEPSA personnel carried out extensive desilting and clearing of drainage channels that had become filled with sand and other debris. According to the Agency, the intervention is expected to improve the discharge of stormwater, while the area will continue to be monitored after subsequent rainfall to determine whether additional engineering or environmental measures may be required.
The response team also moved to Lugard Road by UTC, where a major culvert had become blocked, restricting the flow of water and causing floodwater to overflow onto the road. The situation resulted in traffic congestion and affected the movement of motorists, businesses, and other road users until the blockage was cleared.
Speaking during the exercise, PEPSA noted that while heavy rainfall is a natural occurrence, the condition of drainage channels plays a significant role in how effectively stormwater is conveyed. The Agency observed that drains and culverts function best when they remain free of obstructions, allowing water to flow without restriction.
PEPSA reiterated that protecting drainage infrastructure is a shared responsibility, urging residents, businesses, and motorists to adopt proper waste disposal practices and make use of designated community waste collection or drop-off points rather than disposing of refuse in drainage channels, culverts, waterways, or open spaces.
The Agency also encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and report activities that may obstruct drainage systems or pose risks to the environment, emphasizing that collective action is essential to maintaining a cleaner, safer, and healthier Plateau State.
PEPSA reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and public infrastructure through timely environmental interventions and sustained sanitation efforts, while calling on all residents to partner with the Agency in promoting responsible environmental practices across the state.
A former Chairman of Aare Latosa Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Oyo State, Hon. Adekunle Oladeji, has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Oladeji, who left the APC, has joined the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
DAILY POST gathered that Oladeji served as chairman of the LCDA during the tenure of the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
The LCDA is one of the LCDAs under Ibadan North Local Government Area.
Our correspondent gathered that Oladeji’s father, Alhaji B.A.O. Oladeji, served as Oyo South Senatorial District Chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), one of the political parties that merged to form the APC between 2014 and 2015.
His father remains a major stakeholder in the APC in the state.
DAILY POST gathered that while the father remains a key figure in the APC, the son has moved to the APM.
It was learnt that the younger Oladeji has publicly declared his support for the APM governorship candidate, Mr. Bimbo Adekanmbi, and Governor Seyi Makinde, who is the party’s presidential candidate.
Oladeji, when contacted, confirmed the development to DAILY POST on Saturday.
Speaking, he noted that he had dumped the APC and joined the APM ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a short message sent to DAILY POST, Oladeji said the news of his defection to the APM was true.
“Yes. It is confirmed,” he said.

Historic Wheelchair Basketball Debut Ends In Heartbreak As Scotland Crush Nigeria, But Commonwealth Games Dream Lives On
Team Nigeria’s historic debut in wheelchair basketball at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games began with a tough lesson on Saturday as the women’s team suffered a 16-1 defeat to host nation Scotland in a Pool B encounter at SEC Hall 4.
Playing before a lively home crowd, the Scots produced a dominant display, combining clinical finishing, quick ball movement and disciplined defending to overwhelm the Nigerian side from the opening whistle.
Scotland seized control of the contest early, dictating possession and setting the tempo with relentless attacking play. Nigeria struggled to break through the hosts’ well-organised defence, while Scotland capitalised on almost every scoring opportunity to gradually extend their advantage.
Despite the one-sided scoreline, the Nigerian players refused to give up, battling until the final buzzer in what was their first taste of Commonwealth Games wheelchair basketball.
The defeat was a disappointing result for Team Nigeria, particularly after the country’s encouraging performances in other events, where the delegation has already secured three gold and three silver medals, all from para powerlifting, while the women’s 3×3 basketball team also opened its campaign with victory over the Cayman Islands.
However, beyond the result lies a story of history and progress.
The Glasgow Games mark the first time Nigeria has qualified a wheelchair basketball team for the Commonwealth Games, making the country’s participation a landmark achievement for the sport. Reaching the Games is the culmination of years of development and growing investment in para sports, placing Nigeria among the Commonwealth’s elite wheelchair basketball nations for the very first time.
Although Scotland proved too strong on the day, the defeat does not end Nigeria’s campaign.
The wheelchair basketball competition is being played in a round-robin group format, meaning every team is guaranteed additional Pool B matches before the knockout and classification stages. Nigeria therefore remains in contention and still has opportunities to improve its standing and fight for a place in the latter rounds.
For the coaching crew, the immediate challenge will be to analyse the shortcomings exposed by the hosts, rebuild confidence and prepare the players for the crucial fixtures ahead.
The experience gained against one of the tournament favourites could prove invaluable as the Nigerians continue their historic journey on the Commonwealth stage.
