President Bola Tinubu’s Political Adviser, Ibrahim Kabiru Masari, has said the African Democratic Congress, ADC, candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is joking about his 2027 presidential ambition.

Masari said Atiku’s political ambition would not be achieved through desperation.

Addressing members of the Jigawa State Academics Forum, Masari said: “Even Atiku himself knows he is just joking and kidding.”

Masari claimed that the All Progressives Congress, APC, is Nigeria’s dominant political party, adding that the 2027 election is a choice between continuing the Tinubu administration’s programmes and returning to the opposition.

He cited infrastructure development, economic diversification, security and poverty reduction as areas the administration was prioritising.

Masari also commended the Jigawa State Academics Forum for endorsing President Tinubu and Governor Umar Namadi for another term.

At least five miners have been killed and two others injured after suspected gunmen attacked a mining site in Marit village, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The attack reportedly occurred at about 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, while the miners were carrying out activities at the site.

The incident has thrown the community into mourning and raised fresh concerns over the safety of residents and workers in mining communities across the area.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, confirmed that five people were killed while two others sustained injuries. A community member, Simon Mundat, also described the incident as devastating and appealed for stronger security measures. 

As of the time of reporting, security agencies had yet to independently confirm the casualty figure or identify those responsible for the attack. 

The latest incident comes amid heightened security concerns in parts of Plateau State and follows other recent attacks and mining-related incidents.

Just days earlier, four suspected illegal miners reportedly died after a sand excavation pit collapsed in Tangur community, Bokkos LGA, highlighting the growing security and safety challenges confronting mining communities in the state.

Residents and community leaders are calling for stronger security presence and measures to protect lives and livelihoods in affected communities.
