NDC exposes ‘fake deputy publicity secretary’

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has publicly disowned Mr Okey Ezeala, warning party members and the general public that he is neither an official nor a representative of the party despite allegedly presenting himself as its Deputy National Publicity Secretary.

The party made the clarification in a disclaimer signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq., accusing Ezeala of impersonation and other activities it described as fraudulent.

According to the statement, Ezeala was never elected or appointed as the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary and does not belong to either the National Executive Committee, NEC, or the National Working Committee, NWC.

The NDC alleged that it had received several complaints accusing Ezeala of falsely presenting himself as a party official while also claiming to be a member of the National Working Committee.

The party further alleged that Ezeala deceived some members by collecting large sums of money with promises of securing party tickets and political appointments.

It also accused him of organising what it described as an illegal “Congress” through intimidation and other means, an action it said resulted in the emergence of an unlawful parallel executive in his home state of Abia.

The party maintained that Ezeala had never held any official position within its leadership structure.

“Mr. Okey Ezeala is not elected or appointed by any organ of our great party as deputy national publicity secretary or into our NWC or NEC as a member,” the statement read.

The party warned its members and the public against conducting any transaction with Ezeala on behalf of the NDC, insisting that he has no authority to represent the party at any level.

According to the statement, Ezeala is not a member of the party’s executive committee at the national, state or local government levels and cannot transact any business in the name of the party.

The NDC also urged anyone who may have fallen victim to Ezeala’s alleged activities to formally report the matter to the office of the party’s National Secretary for appropriate action.

2027: Wike declares APC’s Kingsley Chinda next governor of Rivers State

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in Rivers State, Honourable Kingsley Chinda, will emerge as the next governor of the state in 2027.

The former governor of Rivers State made the remark on Tuesday during a warm reception organised in his honour by Ogbakor Ikwerre, the socio-cultural organisation of the Ikwerre ethnic nationality, at Obiri-Ehie.

Acknowledging the presence of dignitaries at the event, Wike introduced Chinda as the “former Minority Leader in the House of Representatives and, by the grace of God, the next governor of Rivers State.”

If elected, Chinda, a member of the House of Representatives, will take over from Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who declined to run for a second term.

Plateau agriculture commissioner pledges to prioritise food security

The newly appointed Commissioner for Agriculture in Plateau State, Peter Gai, has pledged to prioritise food security and drive policies to boost farming activities in the state.

Mr Gai made the promise shortly after taking over as commissioner in charge of the ministry on Tuesday in Jos.

Recently, Governor Caleb Mutfwang reshuffled his cabinet, moving Mr Gai from the Ministry of Lands, Survey and Town Planning to the Ministry of Agriculture.

The new commissioner said the ministry under his leadership would focus on policies and programmes that ensure the availability and affordability of food in the state.

“Our mandate is clear; we will work to guarantee food security, support our farmers with modern inputs and create an enabling environment for agribusiness in the state to thrive,” he said.

Mr Gai added that the ministry would collaborate with federal agencies, development partners, and farmer groups to increase yields across value chains for various crops in the state.

The commissioner, who described agriculture as key to creating jobs and ensuring the state’s economic growth, added that the ministry would tackle post-harvest losses, access to finance, and extension services.

Earlier, Ishaku Bugama, the outgoing commissioner for agriculture, advised ministry staff to accord the new commissioner the support needed to help him succeed.

Mr Bugama, who thanked Mr Mutfwang for the opportunity to serve, expressed confidence that the new commissioner would take the sector to greater heights.
