Group Urges Governor Mutfwang to Rethink Ties With PDP, Cites Party’s Internal Crisis as Threat to Governance

The Vanguard of the Voice of Reasoning, a Plateau State–based socio-political group, has called on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to reconsider his continued association with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the party’s worsening internal crisis as a potential threat to his administration’s agenda and future political ambitions.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its chairman, James Buba, the group expressed concern over the recent factionalisation of the PDP’s Board of Trustees (BoT), following the appointment of Senator Mao Ohabunwa as BoT Chairman by the factional national chairman, Mohammed Abdulrahman.

The group said the development was further evidence that the PDP had become “rudderless and beyond redemption,” making it a risky platform for Governor Mutfwang to project his second-term aspiration.

“As keen stakeholders in the Plateau project, we have watched with shock the unravelling of the PDP at the national level, with the latest being the factionalisation of the BoT,” the statement read. “While the PDP remains relatively united in Plateau State, as seen during the recent congresses, we are afraid that the crisis in Abuja could hinder the collective aspiration of the electorate to sustain the good works of the Caleb Mutfwang administration.”

The group advised the governor to explore other political options that would ensure stability and continuity of governance in the state, insisting that the PDP has lost direction nationally.

“It is on this basis that we are calling on the governor to seek out options in leading his followers on the Plateau toward nourishing their political aspirations, given that the PDP has become a dead horse,” the group said. “This call is not only for the governor’s good but for the overall interest of the people of Plateau.”

Concluding, the Vanguard of the Voice of Reasoning urged Governor Mutfwang and other Plateau leaders to set aside past political grievances and work toward unity and reconciliation across party lines.

“For the sake of this proposal, we dare say that the governor should look beyond past hurts with political rivals and seek healing among all tendencies for what could be the best interest of the people on the Plateau,” the statement added.
