2027: NDC will overcome current crisis – Kwankwaso

Vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed confidence that the party will overcome its ongoing legal challenges, urging members and supporters to remain calm and committed ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso gave the assurance on Sunday through a post on his official X platform following a courtesy visit to the National Leader of the NDC, Seriake Dickson, at his Abuja residence.

According to the former Kano State governor, the meeting was part of broader consultations aimed at strengthening party unity, resilience and strategic preparations for the next electoral cycle.

“Today, I paid a courtesy visit to the National Leader of our party, the NDC, His Excellency Seriake Dickson, at his residence in Abuja,” he wrote.

“The engagement forms part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen the party’s unity, resilience and strategic readiness as we prepare for the 2027 general elections.”

Kwankwaso stated that the party remained fully committed to democratic principles and the rule of law, while expressing confidence in the judicial process despite the legal issues confronting the party.

“As true democrats, we remain committed to the rule of law and have absolute confidence in the judicial process. No temporary setback can weaken the spirit of a movement built on hope, justice, equity, and the collective aspirations of the Nigerian people,” he said.

He further appealed to party faithful, supporters and Nigerians to remain steadfast and optimistic, insisting that the party would emerge stronger from the current situation.

“I urge all party members, supporters, and well-meaning Nigerians to stay calm, resolute, and focused on our shared mission. Together, we will rise above every challenge.

“Nigeria will be OK,” he added.

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has predicted that artificial intelligence and humanoid robots will eventually perform most jobs currently done by humans, ushering in an era where governments may have to provide citizens with a universal income.

Speaking during a discussion with XPRIZE founder Peter Diamandis at the Abundance Summit, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO said the rapid advancement of AI and robotics would dramatically increase global productivity, making goods and services more abundant than ever before.

According to Musk, technological progress will reach a point where machines become capable of meeting nearly all human needs, leaving fewer employment opportunities for people.

“AI and robots are going to make so much stuff and provide so many services that they will actually run out of things to do for humans,” he said.

Musk explained that once artificial intelligence begins producing goods and services on a massive scale, economic output could expand far beyond current levels while human demand remains relatively limited.

He argued that such a shift would require a new approach to wealth distribution, suggesting that governments may eventually adopt what he described as a “universal high income” model.

“We’re basically just issuing money to people,” Musk said, adding that future economies could sustain such a system because the supply of goods and services would grow much faster than the money supply.

The tech billionaire maintained that this imbalance would create deflationary pressures, making products and services cheaper over time rather than triggering inflation.

Musk’s latest comments come amid growing global discussions about the impact of artificial intelligence on employment, with experts divided over whether AI will replace existing jobs or create new economic opportunities.

His remarks add to the broader debate over how governments, businesses and workers should prepare for a future increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence and automation.

Kamaru Usman Was Always Oversized While Fighting In UFC’s Welterweight Division – Colby Covington

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) icon, Kamaru Usman has received support for his decision to step up from welterweight to middleweight in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), as one of his rivals in the lower category, Colby Covington recalled that the Nigerian was ‘oversized’ for the division.

Sports247 reports that, although Usman has lost two fights when he stepped into The Octagon as a middleweight, he has gained support from Covington, who took on Arman Tsarukyan at RAF 11 in Milwaukee, USA on Saturday.

It was the same night when Usman returned from a 13-month layoff, only to lose to former middleweight champion, Dricus du Plessis of South Africa via a unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night in Oklahoma, USA, but Covington insists ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ had no choice but to step up in weight.

Incidentally, he and Usman had arguably the most notable rivalry at welterweight, during which the Nigerian fighter won two classic fights, with Covington battling gallantly up to the fifth round in each appearance, hence his verdict that the 39-year-old ex-champ has nothing to be ashamed of.

Covington told Uncrowned, “He was always a big welterweight. He was always oversized for the division. That was his biggest strength. He was just so much bigger than everybody at welterweight. He was so strong, so big.

“He put up a great fight against Khamzat (Chimaev). I think he should have won that fight, honestly. If it was five rounds, he would have won that fight, but he still did more damage in that fight. That’s the guy who was regarded as the best middleweight on the planet.”

Sports247 recalls that Usman’s clash with Chimaev was his middleweight debut and, though it came at short notice for him in October 2023, he lost a majority decision across three rounds, then rebounded with a dominant effort at welterweight against Joaquin Buckley in June 2025.

Unfortunately, his second outing as a middleweight ended in defeat in the early hours of on Sunday, as Usman lost via unanimous decision after going the distance of five rounds versus Du Plessis, who lost his belt to Chimaev in August 2025 and was not seen until he returned last weekend.
