Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division, operating under Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), have arrested a suspected militia member along the Kafi Abu–Rakwok Road in Gashish District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
The arrest, which occurred during a night patrol, was confirmed in a statement issued by Major Samson Zhakom, the Media Information Officer for OPSH on Monday. He disclosed that the troops recovered a fabricated AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition from the suspect.
“The suspect was apprehended while in an ambush position, possibly waiting to attack unsuspecting commuters,” Major Zhakom said.
He added that follow-up operations are ongoing to track down other members of the suspected criminal network.
The arrested suspect and the recovered items are currently in the custody of OPSH, as investigations continue.
Zhakom urged the public to remain vigilant and support security efforts by providing timely and credible information that can aid in preventing criminal activities.
Operation Safe Haven is a multi-agency task force established to maintain peace and security in Plateau and neighboring states. In recent months, the task force has made several high-profile arrests involving bandits, gunrunners, and kidnappers across the region.
