Plateau NUJ Retains National Auditor Seat as Tongnaan Bawa Emerges Unopposed

The Plateau State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has retained its hold on the position of National Auditor, with veteran journalist Tongnaan Dada Bawa emerging as the new occupant during the Union’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Kano State.

Bawa, a member of the Correspondents’ Chapel, is a two-time Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Plateau State Chapter, and former Zonal Secretary of NAWOJ Zone D. She was elected unopposed after Akeem Olatidoye of the Kwara State Council withdrew from the race.

Her nomination was championed by Plateau State Council Chairman, Ayuku Pwaspo, who moved a motion for Plateau’s candidate to be considered following the disqualification of the previous occupant, Ladi Emmanuel, on constitutional grounds. The motion was seconded by Nasarawa Council Chairman, Salihu Alkali.

Until her election, Bawa had served in various capacities within the NUJ Plateau State Council, earning recognition for her professionalism, commitment, and experience — qualities stakeholders believe will enhance the Union’s operations at the national level.

NUJ National President, Alhassan Yahya, congratulated Bawa on her victory and urged her to be a team player while leveraging her expertise to strengthen the Union’s work. She was later presented with a certificate of return by the National President, marking her official induction into the NUJ National Working Committee.
