The Plateau State Government has dismissed reports claiming it failed to meet the statutory deadline for submitting its 2024 audited financial statements to the Federal Government.
The rebuttal follows a publication by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), which listed Plateau among states alleged to have defaulted in the process.
In a statement on Wednesday, the state Accountant-General, Naanre Asabe Manset, said the report was inaccurate, stressing that the financial statements were duly submitted to the Auditor-General in May 2025.
She explained that the documents were audited, forwarded to the Plateau State House of Assembly in June, and approved before being published online on July 30, 2025—still within the nine-month legal window.
Manset expressed surprise at the FIJ’s inclusion of Plateau on the defaulting list and called on the organisation to correct its report and remove the state’s name.
