PDP Governors’ Forum Charts Path to Unity, Stability, and National Progress in Jos Meeting

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering unity within the party and addressing critical challenges facing Nigeria. At a pivotal meeting held at Government House Rayfield, Jos, and chaired by Senator Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State, key resolutions were adopted to strengthen the party’s stability and chart a path toward national progress.

Senator Mohammed acknowledged the concerns of Nigerians, party elders, and founding members regarding divisions within the PDP. He assured them that the forum is dedicated to resolving these challenges and positioning the PDP as the premier platform for democratic governance in Nigeria.

The forum expressed solidarity with Governor Enobasi, postponing the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting originally scheduled for November to honour his wife’s recent passing. After consultations with stakeholders, the forum proposed reconvening the NEC meeting by the first week of February 2025 to resolve leadership and legal issues affecting the party.

The forum strongly criticized the APC-led Federal Government’s economic policies, describing them as oppressive and harmful to citizens’ welfare. It called on the President to urgently review macroeconomic and fiscal strategies to alleviate the widespread hardship.

On electoral integrity, the forum decried alleged manipulation in the Edo Governorship Election and urged the judiciary to safeguard democracy by ensuring fairness. It also called for amendments to electoral laws to prevent institutional sabotage of the people’s will.

In a show of empathy, the forum extended condolences to Plateau State for the devastating Katako Market fire, which caused significant property losses, and to Jigawa State following a tragic tanker explosion. It also praised the resilience of affected communities and pledged continued support.

The forum commended Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for his transformative initiatives in Plateau State, particularly in social services, tourism, and transportation. Senator Mohammed highlighted these efforts as a model for nationwide implementation under future PDP leadership.

With optimism and determination, the forum reaffirmed its resolve to reposition the PDP for success in the 2027 elections. “The forum is optimistic that the PDP will reclaim its rightful position in Nigeria by 2027, by the grace of God,” Senator Mohammed declared.

The meeting, hosted by Governor Mutfwang, brought together a distinguished lineup of PDP governors, deputy governors, National Assembly members, and stakeholders from across the nation. Attendees included:

  • H.E. Dr. Agbu Kefas (Taraba State)
  • H.E. Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa State)
  • H.E. Seyi Makinde (Oyo State)
  • H.E. Dr. Dauda Lawal (Zamfara State)
  • Deputy Governors Monday Onyeme (Delta State) and Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai (Enugu State)

The forum expressed gratitude to the people and government of Plateau State for their warm hospitality, underscoring the importance of collaboration in strengthening Nigeria’s democratic framework.
