Mr. Julius Okoro has officially taken up his responsibilities as the Commissioner of Police in Plateau State. Having previously held the position of Commissioner of Police in charge of Benue State, Okoro brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role.
A press release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, on Friday, conveyed the news to the residents of Plateau State. The statement read, “The Plateau State Police Command is pleased to inform the esteemed citizens of the State that CP Okoro Alawari Julius has assumed the role of Commissioner of Police for the Plateau State Command.”
Julius Okoro, a native of Sagbama Local Government Area in Bayelsa State, possesses an impressive educational background. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (ed) degree in History from Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, obtained in 1987, and a Masters degree in Public Administration from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, which he earned in 2010. Beginning his career as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in March 1990, Okoro has consistently demonstrated dedication and resilience in his service, progressing through the ranks and leaving a significant impact in different states across the nation.
Throughout his career, Okoro has fulfilled various roles, showcasing his versatility and commitment to upholding law and order. These include assignments as Divisional Crime Officer (DCO), Divisional Traffic Officer (DTO), Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Tactical Team Commander, Area Commander, as well as leadership positions in Departments of Finance and Administration, Operations, and Investigation.
Promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP) in March 2022, Okoro was assigned as Force Provost Marshal at Force Headquarters, Abuja, before overseeing operations in Benue State as Commissioner of Police. His recent appointment as the 43rd Commissioner of Police in Plateau State marks a continuation of his impactful service.
As he took office on August 11, 2023, CP Okoro affirmed his commitment to the safety and security of Plateau State’s residents. He pledged to maintain and enhance the command’s efforts in safeguarding lives and properties, preserving law and order, and fostering a secure environment where every citizen can thrive.
