Izuchukwu, Yakubu Bags Plateau United Player Of The Month Award For March, April

Izuchukwu Chimezie and Yakubu Adams have bagged the Plateau United Player of the Month award for March and April.

The duo distinguished themselves in the last two months in the colors of the team and scored vital goals in the process to keep the team in contention for the Super six play-offs spot.

Izuchukwu who joined the team from defunct the Mountain of Fire and Miracles of Lagos in 2021, instantly made his presence felt by scoring crucial goals that helped the team finished second in the 2021/2022 Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL.

Though, he has been in and out of the team this current campaign due to a recurring ankle injury , his performance was good enough to see him nominated for the April , NPFL Bloggers Award.

Yakubu who pitched tent with the Peace Boys at the end of last season, has established himself in the heart of the team’s midfield with some scintillating performances which has made him a fans favourite.

The former Akwa United of Uyo midfielder , is now a mainstay in the middle of the pack for Plateau United and he capped his efforts with a well taken goal as he propelled his team to despatched Gombe United 2-0 at the Jos International Stadium in the second stanza of the league.

High point of the event was the presentation of the awards to the deserving players , by the club’s General Manager, Pius Henwan at the team’s Camp ahead of its week sixteen clash against Remo Stars.

The Plateau United Player of the month award was initiated by Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu to create a healthy rivalry in the team as players jostling for shirts in a serene atmosphere.

Nigerian music stars Davido, Burna Boy, Rema, Ayra Starr, and rapper Odumodublvck will fly the country’s flag at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as FIFA unveiled the official World Cup soundtrack album.

Despite the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Nigerian artistes are among the headline acts featured on the star-studded 18-track FIFA World Cup 2026 album released ahead of the tournament in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Their inclusion further highlights the growing global dominance of Afrobeats and Nigeria’s cultural influence on the international entertainment scene.

Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy teams up with Colombian superstar Shakira on the lead anthem titled “Dai Dai,” one of the flagship songs expected to dominate the tournament’s celebrations.

Davido also secured a major spot on the project with “No Place Like Home,” a collaboration featuring international music group Major Lazer and Canadian singer Nelly Furtado.

Rema, one of Africa’s fastest-rising global stars, appears on the song “Goals” alongside BLACKPINK member LISA and Brazilian singer Anitta, while Ayra Starr joins American rapper Latto on the track “Show Me.”

Indigenous Nigerian hip-hop star Odumodublvck also earned recognition on the album through a special collaborative song featuring Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho, Justin Quiles, and Lenny Tavárez.

Beyond the official album, Nigerian artists are also expected to play active roles during the tournament festivities.

Reports indicate that Rema will perform during the opening ceremony events, while Davido is scheduled to appear at the FIFA World Cup countdown concert at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

The strong Nigerian representation on the FIFA World Cup soundtrack comes as another major boost for Afrobeats, which has continued to gain worldwide acceptance through collaborations with international stars and appearances on major global platforms.

Although Nigeria’s national football team will miss out on the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup, the country’s music industry will still enjoy a prominent spotlight on football’s biggest stage.

Ogunsanya Wins Nigeria’s First Medal at Ulaanbaatar Open Wrestling Ranking Series

Nigeria’s Christiana Ogunsanya has secured the country’s first medal at the ongoing 2026 Ulaanbaatar Open Ranking Series in Mongolia after winning bronze in the women’s 53kg category.

Ogunsanya delivered a spirited performance to defeat Mongolia’s Otgontuya Bayanmunkh 6-6 on criteria in the bronze medal bout on Friday, handing Team Nigeria its first podium finish at the prestigious United World Wrestling Ranking Series event.

The Nigerian wrestler showed resilience throughout the competition, battling against a strong international field that included top athletes from Asia and Europe.

Her bronze medal finish marks another important milestone for Nigerian wrestling on the global stage.

The women’s 53kg gold medal was won by DPR Korea’s Kyong Ryong Oh, who defeated Japan’s Moe Kiyooka 10-6 in the final, while Romania’s Andreea Ana claimed the second bronze medal in the category.

Ogunsanya’s achievement comes as Nigeria continues to strengthen its reputation in international wrestling competitions, especially in women’s wrestling where the country has consistently produced world-class talents.

At the Ulaanbaatar Open, India emerged as one of the standout nations in women’s wrestling, winning gold medals through Manisha in the 57kg category and Neha in the 59kg division, while DPR Korea also secured multiple titles.

 

The Ulaanbaatar Open Ranking Series is one of the major international wrestling tournaments sanctioned by United World Wrestling, attracting elite wrestlers from across the world as they prepare for upcoming global championships.
