Several political stakeholders and their supporters from the African Democratic Congress, ADC, All Progressives Congress, APC, and Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The development was announced by Rt. Hon. George Alli, a Senior Legislative Aide.

The defectors include Hon. Adoga Edache, popularly known as Ebo, from the ADC; former Otukpo Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Inalegwu Adakonye, from the APC; and Mr Emmanuel Akoche of the Zenith Labour Party.

Others are Mr Garuba Sule of the APC in Ugboju Icho and Mr John Ojonye, Chairman of the ADC in Ugboju Ehaji Ward, alongside several other party members and their supporters.

The new PDP members reportedly attributed their decision to join the party to its leadership, people-oriented ideology and what they described as its prospects ahead of the forthcoming elections.

Receiving the defectors were the PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate, Dr Oyije Ochaeikiti; the Otukpo Local Government Party Chairman, Hon. Godwin Ochapa; the party's House of Assembly candidate for Otukpo/Akpa, Hon. Johnson Egli; and its candidate for Adoka/Ugboju, Hon. Gabriel Olofu.

Also present was Rt. Hon. George Alli.

Speaking on behalf of the party, Ochaeikiti welcomed the new members and assured them of equal opportunities and full integration into the party's activities.

He described their defection as evidence of the PDP's growing acceptance across Benue South.

The defectors pledged their loyalty to the PDP and promised to work towards the party's success at all levels.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, says the North will deliver more than 70 per cent of its votes to President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Mr Yilwatda spoke on Saturday in Abuja at the opening of Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A), a political pressure group mobilising support for Mr Tinubu and the APC.

He described the 2027 presidential election as an opportunity to renew Mr Tinubu’s mandate, citing infrastructure projects, political appointments and inclusive governance.

The APC chairman expressed confidence that northern voters would support Mr Tinubu’s re-election, arguing that the region had benefited significantly from his administration.

He listed road projects across the North, including the Trans-Saharan Super Highway, covering routes from Benue through the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Akwanga, Jos, Maiduguri and Biu.

“I can’t mention all of them, but President Tinubu has done wonderfully. He has covered all the geopolitical zones in the North in terms of road projects,” he said.

Mr Yilwatda said the administration was also undertaking railway and healthcare projects across the region, including health centres and free medical services for pregnant women.

He identified the appointment of northerners to key political positions as another reason the region should support Mr Tinubu’s re-election.

The APC chairman urged supporters to secure votes for Mr Tinubu at the grassroots, expressing confidence in their ability to deliver the projected 70 per cent.

“Even if in our hometown alone we can win our polling units for President Tinubu, we have over 70 per cent of the vote in the North, just us alone in our polling units.

“So we have no reason not to return Tinubu. Therefore, I move that he should be returned for the second time,” Mr Yilwatda said.

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi emerged as Fulham’s hero after scoring the decisive goal in a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Hull City, handing the Cottagers their first Premier League win of the 2026/27 season.

Sports247 reports that the Nigerian international struck in the 33rd minute, converting an opportunity created by Sander Berge to secure three valuable points for the London club.

The victory also marked a significant breakthrough for Fulham manager Álvaro Arbeloa, who celebrated his first Premier League triumph in charge in his seventh league match.

With Fulham desperately searching for their first league victory of the campaign, Iwobi stepped forward to provide the decisive moment.

The breakthrough arrived in the 33rd minute when Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge supplied the assist for the Nigerian international to put Fulham ahead. Iwobi’s goal proved enough to separate the two teams as Fulham successfully protected their slender advantage.

For the Super Eagles midfielder, the strike represented an important individual contribution at a time when his club urgently needed a positive result. His ability to influence the outcome highlighted his importance to Fulham’s attacking play.

The result brought welcome relief for Álvaro Arbeloa following a difficult start to his managerial tenure at Fulham. Having gone six league matches without recording a victory, the Spanish tactician finally secured his first Premier League win at the seventh attempt.

The triumph will provide encouragement for the manager and his players as they attempt to build confidence and improve their performances. For Fulham, the three points represent more than simply another league result, offering a potential turning point after a frustrating opening period.

The victory against Hull City also carried significant importance for Fulham’s position in the Premier League standings. After enduring a winless start to the campaign, the Cottagers collected their first maximum points of the season and moved out of the relegation zone.

The result provides a timely boost as the club looks to establish greater consistency and move further away from the bottom of the table. While the season remains in its early stages, Fulham will be hoping the victory can serve as a foundation for improved results.

Iwobi’s match-winning contribution represents another encouraging development for Nigerian football, with the midfielder continuing to demonstrate his importance in the English top flight.

The experienced international has established himself as a versatile player capable of contributing in different midfield and attacking roles. His latest goal underlines his ability to deliver decisive moments when his team needs them most.

For Fulham, the wait for a Premier League victory is finally over. For Álvaro Arbeloa, the pressure has eased, and for Alex Iwobi, his 33rd-minute winner has provided another memorable moment in his Premier League career.
