Police arrest suspect over alleged transformer vandalism in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Monday Dauda, for allegedly vandalising an electricity transformer belonging to the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) in Bogoro Local Government Area.

The suspect was reportedly arrested at about 12:30 am on October 8, 2026, by police operatives attached to the Bogoro Divisional Headquarters during a routine patrol in the town.

The police said the operatives spotted suspicious movements around the transformer, located within the premises of Bogoro General Hospital, and moved closer to investigate.

According to the command in a statement issued on Friday, the officers discovered that the suspect had removed the transformer’s armoured cable and attached it to a motorcycle, allegedly preparing to cart it away before he was arrested.

The command added that the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation, while the recovered armoured cable and motorcycle were taken as exhibits.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, reiterating the command’s commitment to protecting critical infrastructure across the state.

The police spokesman, SP Nafiu Habib, said the commissioner had directed that the suspect and the recovered exhibits be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution.

Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on Friday said the former vice president is now the leader other candidates are following in the area of national discourse.

Okonkwo recalled that Atiku headed the country’s economic team while he was vice president from 1999 to 2007.

Posting on X, he disclosed that Atiku built Nigeria’s strongest economy while he was vice president.

He said: “Atiku is now the clear leader whom other candidates are following in every important national discourse. As the head of the economic team, between 1999 and 2007, and as the VP of Nigeria, he built the strongest economy so far for Nigeria. They paid subsidy and paid off our international debt.”

“Atiku is humane and humble. His promise to bring back subsidy is a reflection of his policy of putting people and their welfare first.

‘You don’t behave like Yoruba person’ – SDP’s Adebayo hits Tinubu

The Social Democratic Party, SDP, presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, on Friday insisted that President Bola Tinubu does not behave like a Yoruba person.

Adebayo explained that Tinubu does not exhibit the traits of a genuine Yoruba person usually referred to as “omoluabi”.

Featuring on Channels Television’s Inside Sources, the presidential candidate said Tinubu does not meet the standard of the late sage, Obafemi Awolowo, as well as Ladoke Akintola and other second and third Republic leaders.

He said, “Tinubu does not behave like a Yoruba person, he doesn’t have that omoluabi character.

“There is no traditional ruler, Afenifere or clergy who can honestly go to a Yoruba gathering and say that Bola Tinubu is a Yoruba person.

“Awolowo has set the standard, if you look at Adesoji Aderemi, Ladoke Akintola, if you look at the quality of people in the Second Republic, look at the Third Republic, look at the governors, the quality of leadership, if you look around, the kind of Yoruba person you can use to represent other Yoruba people, he doesn’t meet the standard.

“I want to let you know that Yorubas are not tribalistic, they are not nepotistic. No Yoruba person will use a bad example of a Yoruba person to inspire his children.”
