Plateau Governor Pays Tribute to Elder Statesman, Lt. General Useni Dies at 82

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has paid tribute to Lt. General Jeremiah Useni, a renowned elder statesman and distinguished military officer, who passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the age of 82.

In a statement signed on his behalf by his director of Price and public affairs, Gyang Bere, Governor Mutfwang described Useni’s demise as a monumental loss to the state, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the nation at large, noting that his remarkable life of service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s development has left an indelible mark on the country’s history.

“Useni had a distinguished career, serving as Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and Minister of the FCT. After retiring from the military, he ventured into politics and was elected Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District in 2015”.

The Governor commended Useni’s life of dedication and selflessness, emphasizing his significant contributions to the military, politics, and community development. He described him as a man of compassion, generosity, and commitment to the well-being of others.

“On behalf of my family the government and the peace-loving people of Plateau State, I extend my deepest sympathies to the president the Nigerian armed forces the immediate family, and all those mourning the loss of this distinguished elder stateman” Gov Mutfwang.
