PDP Support Groups Urge Governor Mutfwang to Join APC, Citing Need for Federal Alignment

A coalition of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) support groups in Plateau State has publicly called on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), arguing that closer alignment with the Federal Government would accelerate development in the state.

Led by Hon. Christopher Danjem, the coalition began its rally at Secretariat Junction in Jos before marching to the Plateau State Government House, where they presented a formal letter to the governor. The delegation was received by Chief of Staff Jeremiah Satmark and other senior aides, including the Political Adviser Rt. Hon. Istifanus Mwansat, Local Government Affairs Adviser Hon. Jonathan Dabo, and Intergovernmental Affairs Adviser Rt. Hon. Abu Kanam.

Speaking during the visit, Danjem explained that the coalition’s stance was based on a careful assessment of the political landscape in Plateau State and Nigeria. “We are here after studying the political situation in Plateau State and Nigeria. We are calling on His Excellency, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, to move to the All Progressives Congress,” he said. “The governor is the architect of the new Plateau. To build on his achievements, we believe he needs to align with the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Danjem further highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s goodwill toward Plateau, referencing the recent visit of the First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, following security challenges in the state. He said joining the APC would attract more federal attention and accelerate developmental projects.

During the rally, the coalition conducted a “motion session,” unanimously adopting a resolution urging the governor to defect “without hesitation.” Danjem described the appeal as a bid to secure more democratic dividends for Plateau residents.

Receiving the delegation, Chief of Staff Jeremiah Satmark explained that Governor Mutfwang was away in Kaduna but assured that the governor would receive the group’s message. “His Excellency has said two entities will determine his next political move—God and the people of Plateau State,” Satmark said. “You have shown yourselves as people of genuine concern. The governor is transformative and highly regarded for changing the fortunes of this state since assuming office.”

He added that the governor would consider their request “passionately” and promised that feedback would be communicated in due course.

The rally represents one of the first public calls from PDP-affiliated groups urging Governor Mutfwang to consider aligning with the ruling party at the national level.
