Nigerian tennis sensation Seun Ogunsakin has etched his name into the history books after becoming the first Nigerian to compete at the Roland Garros Junior Championships qualifying tournament.

The young star marked the historic occasion in impressive fashion by claiming his first-ever victory at the prestigious clay-court event, defeating French player Lenny Couturier 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the final qualifying round.

Ogunsakin displayed remarkable composure throughout the contest, dominating from the baseline and capitalising on crucial break-point opportunities against his French opponent.

In the opening set, the Nigerian youngster controlled the tempo from the start, limiting unforced errors and dictating rallies to secure a convincing 6-2 win.

The second set proved more competitive as Couturier attempted a comeback, but Ogunsakin remained focused under pressure.

He produced a decisive late break of serve before closing out the match 6-4 to complete a memorable straight-sets victory.

The triumph represents a major milestone for Nigerian tennis, with Ogunsakin becoming the first player from the country to record a win in the Roland Garros Juniors qualifying competition.

His achievement further highlights the growing progress of Nigerian tennis on the international stage and offers encouragement for the next generation of players aiming to compete at Grand Slam tournaments.

Ogunsakin will now return to court for the final qualifying round as he seeks to secure a place in the main draw of the Roland Garros Junior Championships.
