A 22-year-old bus conductor, Adamu Musa, has been sentenced to six months in prison by an Area Court in Jos, Plateau State, for assaulting and injuring a woman. The incident, which led to grievous harm, was brought to light on Thursday during the court proceedings.
Presiding Judge, Shawomi Bokkos, handed down the sentence after the defendant pleaded guilty to two charges: criminal intimidation and causing grievous harm. In addition to the jail term, the judge ordered Musa to pay a fine of N30,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months of imprisonment at the correctional centre.
Furthermore, the court mandated that Musa compensate the victim, Aisha Abdullahi, with N90,000. He will face an extended six-month jail term if he fails to meet this financial obligation.
The case came to light when the complainant, Aisha Abdullahi, reported the incident to the Laranto Police Station in Jos on January 6. According to her statement, Musa slapped her, causing severe injuries to her head. During the police investigation, the accused reportedly confessed to the crime.
Inspector Ibrahim Gokat, representing the prosecution, highlighted that the defendant’s actions violated provisions outlined in the Plateau State Penal Code, which is in line with the Laws of Northern Nigeria.
This verdict serves as a reminder of the legal consequences for acts of violence and the importance of upholding justice for victims of such crimes.
