Lalong gets commendation for paying Plateau workers’ salary arrears, pensions

All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Plateau State, Chief Rufus Bature has commended Gov. Simon Lalong over payment of the backlog of workers’ salaries and pensions of retired civil servants.

In a statement issued in Jos on Sunday by APC’s Publicity Secretary in Plateau, Mr. Sylvanus Namang, the chairman expressed delight that Lalong could fulfill his obligations to the workforce.

He said this was in spite of the economic downturn being experienced in the country which has led to a drastic fall in revenue allocation to states.

“I am happy with the confirmation by the Commissioner of Finance, Mrs. Regina Soemlat, and the Accountant-General. Dr. Cyril Tsenyil.

“They said that the government has paid workers’ salaries and third-party deductions up to December 2022, while working earnestly to pay January salaries very soon.

“This is a mark of respect for senior citizens who have diligently served the state and retired.

“The government, under the captainship of the rescue administration, has been very prompt in paying pensions,” Bature said in the statement.

He thanked civil servants whom he described as the engine room of government for their patience and understanding.

He charged them to reciprocate the gesture of the governor by putting in their best at their various places of work.

Thank God I’m not on Wike’s list – Gov Sule

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has expressed gratitude to God that he is not on the list of governors the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, said are fighting him.

The governor made the expression on Tuesday during an interview on TVC.

He was speaking on the political dispute between Wike and some All Progressives Congress, APC, governors over the Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Recall that Wike on Monday listed three APC governors he said are fighting him.

He named them as Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Reacting, Governor Sule said, “Thank God I’m not on that list. I feel relieved that I’m not on Wike’s list of APC governors fighting the Rainbow Coalition.

“Wike is one of the ministers in this administration, and if he says he wants to support President Tinubu from another party, remember he’s not an APC member.

“What’s the whole essence of an alliance? I think the Governors’ Forum message was misunderstood.”

NPFL: Monday happy to help Plateau United beat Shooting Stars

Plateau United forward Gideon Monday has expressed happiness with his contribution to the team’s 3-1 win over Shooting Stars.

Monday scored the equaliser for Plateau United, cancelling out Taheer Abubakar’s opening goal for Shooting Stars.

Seiyefa Jackson gave Plateau United the lead for the first time in the game before Jibril Ibrahim added the third for the hosts in a 3-1 win.

The forward said he attacked the goal with determination to give Plateau United the lead.

“I’m really happy with the victory, and also delighted to have scored my first goal for the club,” Monday told Plateau United media.

“I feel very happy to have scored against my former club, Shooting Stars. I know I had a chance which I attacked with determination.”

DAILY POST recalls that Monday joined the Jos-based club from Shooting Stars at the start of the new campaign.

He will hope to continue his scoring form when Plateau United face Doma United at the Pantami Stadium on Wednesday.
