Fire outbreaks: Army Officers, Wives, Others Sensitized on fire Prevention and Management

As the season continues to delve into the harmattan it is a known fact that the incidence of fire outbreaks becomes common on the domestic front across the nation.

This is why Major General Is Ali the general commander 3 division of the Nigerian Army and commander of operation safe (OSH) PlateauState on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff Lt. General F Yahaya organized a “Fire Prevention and Management Sensitization Seminar” for men and women of the command (barrack) at the 3 division auditorium maxwell khobe cantonment from 21st – 23rd November 2022.

The event began with a welcome address by the representative of the chief of logistics Army Head Quarters Brigadier General BO Ogundumi, he stated that the event is a welfare support program by the Chief of Army Staff because of his love for his people, he decided to equip them with the correct information that will protect lives and properties within the barracks.

In the same line, the representative of the commander of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and commander of operation safe (OSH) Brigadier General David Kurmi, thanked the Nigerian Army HQs for such a timely program that will help prevent fire outbreaks within the barracks. He further, asked those present at the event to pass down the information lent here to their wards, neighbor, and family.

The seminar covers;

  1. contemporary approaches to fire and safety management and optical fire response in the Nigerian Army.
  2. Effective fire prevention skills as a prerequisite to the safety of Nigerian Army assets and personnel.

Participants of the events include residents of the 3 division barracks, members of the Nigerian Officers’ Wife Association (NAOWA), members of the Nigerian Soldier’s Wife, soldiers from the 3 Division, officers from the Nigerian Fire Service as well as the general public.

JUST IN: Plateau Govt Files Terrorism Charges Against Five Suspects Over Palm Sunday Attack

The Plateau State Government has instituted charges against five suspects arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) over their alleged involvement in the Palm Sunday killings.

The attack, which occurred in March 2026, led to the deaths of several residents in Angwa Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of the state.

Those to be prosecuted were identified as Isa Umar Ibrahim, Auwalu Abubakar, also known as Auwalu Dogo, Musa Abubakar Ibrahim, also known as Yaroro, Ado Ibrahim, and Adamu Isa Alhassan.

The state government filed charges of criminal conspiracy to commit terrorism and other related offences against the first four suspects.

The fifth suspect, Alhassan, is facing additional charges including criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, illegal possession of firearms, and unlawful dealing in arms and ammunition.

The suspects were reportedly arrested by the DSS between April 3 and April 10, 2026.

According to a statement released by the Presidency, the appointments are as follows:

Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu – Chairman, Governing Board, National Examination Council (NECO)

Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi – Retained as Registrar/Chief Executive, NECO

Prof. Babatunde Salako – Chairman, Governing Board, National Board for Technical Education (NBTE)

Prof. Idris M. Bugaje – Reappointed as Executive Secretary, NBTE (second and final 5-year term)

Engr. Dr. Bongfa Binfa – Rector, Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State (5-year term)

Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi – Renewed as Director/Chief Executive, National Library of Nigeria (final 5-year term)
