Eight Killed, Homes Razed in Fresh Attack on Plateau Community

At least eight people have been confirmed dead and several others injured following a deadly night attack by gunmen on Chicim community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Eyewitnesses said the attack occurred around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, taking residents by surprise as many had already retired for the night.

A local resident, Nankus Habila, recounted that the attackers stormed the community and began firing indiscriminately, triggering panic and a desperate attempt by villagers to flee.

The violence reportedly spread to the nearby Gyenbwas community in Langai District, where several houses were set ablaze during the assault.

Efforts to obtain an official response from security agencies proved unsuccessful as of press time. Calls to the spokesman of Operation Safe Haven (OpSH), Major Samson Zhakom, went unanswered, while the phone number of Plateau State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Alfred Alabo, was unreachable.

The latest incident has heightened tension in the area, with residents appealing for urgent government intervention and the deployment of additional security personnel to prevent further bloodshed.
