Canada Delegation: Wrong for president’s aide to lead elected governors on foreign mission – ADC

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has faulted the selection of a presidential aide, to lead a delegation of state governors to a foreign mission.

In a post on X, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, said it was absurd for a personal aide to the president and and his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila to lead elected governors on such a mission.

Recall that President Tinubu had approved a Federal Government delegation led by Gbajabiamila to represent Nigeria at the maiden Nigeria Diaspora Investment Economic Conference in Toronto, Canada.

The delegation includes Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang and Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, as well as some ministers.

In an outrage over the president’s decision, the ADC spokesman said, “Just when you think that you have seen the worst of this Tinubu government, they will just surprise you.

“How can the President’s Chief of Staff, an unelected personal aide of the president, lead elected state governors on a foreign mission. It is well,” he tweeted.

Bauchi APM in crisis as faction suspends chairman

The ruling Allied Peoples Movement, APM, in Bauchi State is facing an internal crisis following the suspension of its chairman, Auwal Isah, by a faction of the party’s executives.

The faction, led by the party’s secretary, Mohammed Nasir Yahaya, announced the suspension at a press conference on Wednesday.

Yahaya said the decision was based on alleged lack of financial accountability, poor record-keeping, failure to operate an official party bank account and violation of the party’s constitution.

He said the faction had appointed Hon. Nasiru Nuru Marafa as interim chairman following an emergency meeting of the executives.

Yahaya linked the crisis to the defection of Governor Bala Mohammed and other government officials to the APM, alleging that Isah changed the party’s executive list to accommodate people who were not original members of the party.

He said the affected individuals were loyalists of the governor and members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who joined him in moving to the APM.

According to Yahaya, the party’s original members had complained to the state and national leadership over the changes, but the issues remained unresolved.

He also alleged that an arrangement was proposed to give the state government 70 per cent of the party’s leadership positions, while the original members would retain 30 per cent.

Yahaya said a committee was set up to harmonise the different interests but held meetings for only four days before its activities were suspended.

He added that the faction had written to the party’s national leadership and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, saying it was not aware of a proposed stakeholders’ meeting.

Yahaya said Governor Bala Mohammed had earlier assured the aggrieved members that the disagreement would be resolved amicably.

He added that the faction had formally notified INEC and the party’s national leadership of Isah’s suspension.

However, the move has been challenged by another faction of the party.

Reacting to the development in an interview with select journalists, the factional publicity secretary, AbdulShakur Danlami Mohammed, said Yahaya was not the party’s secretary, although he did not dispute the group’s membership of the APM.

Mohammed said the party would issue an appropriate response to the development.

Insecurity: Coalition Lauds DSS, Others Over Ongoing Operations In Plateau

A Coalition of Youth Groups in Plateau has commended the Department of State Services (DSS), the Mobile Police and Operation Rainbow, a Plateau-owned security outfit over the ongoing operations against insecurity in the state.

The coalition gave the commendation during a news conference on Wednesday in Abuja.

Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Mr Dalyop Mwantiri, President of Berom Youth Moulders (BYM), said that the three security agencies had demonstrated a deep commitment to tackling the security challenges in the state.

He explained that the coalition comprised of Afizere, Anaguta, Berom, Irigwe, Mwaghavul, Tarok, Ron, Mushere and other indigenous youth groups in the state.

Mwantiri particularly said that the news conference was a reaction to the allegation of bias and selected operations jointly carried out by the three security outfits in the state.

He said that a petition dated Oct. 5 and video clips had been in circulation in that regard.

He explained that the petition and the video clips were capable of misinforming the public and distorting the true security situation in Plateau.

“The coalition smells a rat in the ongoing campaign of calumny orchestrated against the DSS, Mobile Police and Operation Rainbow.

“We believe that the claims are intended to discredit the operations of the security agencies in the state,”he said.

Mwantiri categorically said that the joint ongoing security operations had so far yielded positive results, including improved response to distress calls and arrest of some criminal elements in the state.

“As far as the coalition is concerned, there is substantial evidence that the operations are effective, on track and yielding significant results,” he said.

He called on the government to thoroughly investigate the allegations to establish facts and ensure accountability where necessary.

The BYM president, who decried attacks on security personnel deployed to protect communities, commiserated with the various security agencies over loss of personnel in the line of duty.

He particularly said that security personnel had been ambushed in Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bassa, Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

“On June 1, a newly deployed DSS base at Nding Sesut, Fan in Barkin Ladi was attacked.

“Similarly, on Aug. 23, Tanjol and Tarai villages of Jol community in Riyom LGA were attacked and two DSS personnel lost their lives.

“Some mobile police officers and one personnel of Operation Rainbow were reportedly killed in separate incidents around Bokkos, Riyom and Barkin Ladi,”he said.

Mwantiri said that some DSS operatives also sustained injuries while responding to attacks in Kantoma and Alohgom in Mangu LGA.

He urged the Federal Government to ensure that lawful security operations were adequately sustained and not undermined.

“The protection of innocent lives must take precedence over personal or other interests,” he insisted.

Mwantiri stressed the need to strengthen inter-agency collaboration, synergy and intelligence sharing among security agencies towards ending the circle of violence in the state.

He added that the group would regularly support any efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace, unity and progress in the state.

Mwantiri advised Nigerians to disregard divisive narratives and support measures aimed at promoting peace and security in all parts of the country. (NAN)
