Some stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State have expressed confidence that the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar will win the election despite the withdrawal of support by the former governor of the state, Sen Jonah David Jang. they said that they are not discouraged or threatened.
Jang, alongside other party members loyal to Gov Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, pulled out of the Atiku campaign team following the refusal of the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Iyiorchia Ayu, to resign his position to pave way for someone from the South to take over.
Addressing newsmen in Jos, the Plateau State capital, at the weekend, on behalf of the stakeholders under the umbrella of Plateau for Atiku Group, the interim Secretary of the group, Prof Shedrack Best, argued that Atiku remained their preferred candidate and would surely win the presidential election in the state.
He said, “We have identified with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and will ensure that he wins Plateau State in a very decisive manner come 2023. If Jang comes to join the team, that would be beautiful. But if he doesn’t, that wouldn’t stop Atiku from winning Plateau.”
He further said that Jang’s decision was personal, adding that Plateau people would vote for PDP from top to bottom.
