The governorship candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, in Abia State,  Doris Ogala, has lambasted the imposition of N150m charges on guber candidates for the placement of campaign billboards in the state.

In a video sighted on X, Ogala said she does not have a godfather who ‘has stolen government funds’ to pay such an amount of money for billboard display.

DAILY POST recalls that the Abia State Structure for Signage and Advertising Agency, ABSSAA, placed N200 million and N150 million fees on all 2027 presidential candidates and governorship candidates who wish to display their political campaign structures in the State advertisement space.

Reacting, Ogala said, “People are dying in the hospital. Workers are dying. Their salaries have not been paid, and you are imposing 150 million naira for a candidate. Where will I get the money from?

“Do I have a godfather who has stolen government funds? I should pay 150 million naira. I dare anybody to touch my billboard. All of us will campaign without a billboard in this state.”

The Accord Party governorship candidate in Kebbi State, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Bunza, has promised to use Islamic injunctions as part of his approach to tackling banditry and kidnapping if elected in 2027.

Bunza made the promise on Saturday at a candidate engagement forum organised by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kebbi State Council.

He said passages from the Qur’an, if applied with sincerity, could help end banditry and kidnapping in the state.

The candidate also promised to raise the minimum wage for Kebbi workers to N500,000 monthly if elected.

He said the proposed wage was aimed at improving workers’ welfare and addressing what he described as hardship among civil servants.

Bunza urged Kebbi residents to vote for candidates based on their plans and programmes ahead of the 2027 election.

Tinubu Must Go: Nigerians can’t be threatened into silence – ADC replies Gov Zulum

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, has described Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State’s call to arrest “Tinubu Must Go” protesters as an assault on Nigeria’s democracy.

ADC’s PCC said Nigerians must not be threatened into silence for opposing President Bola Tinubu.

Reacting to Zulum’s latest video calling for the arrest of protesters after an initial denial, the council insisted that no governor has the right to criminalise peaceful political opinion.

In a statement signed by its Director of Strategic Communications, Phrank Shaibu, the council said: “A viral video now circulating, in which Governor Babagana Zulum speaks in Hausa and orders the arrest and detention of anyone caught expressing ‘Tinubu Must Go’, raises grave questions about his respect for citizens’ democratic rights.

“This is especially troubling because Governor Zulum recently denied ordering the arrest of people wearing ‘Tinubu Must Go’ T-shirts. He must explain the fresh video and reconcile its contents with that denial. Nigerians deserve clarity, not contradictory messages about whether peaceful critics will be arrested.

“No governor has the authority to criminalise peaceful political opinion. A slogan, a T-shirt or a call for a president to leave office is not, by itself, a crime. Borno State is not a political detention centre, and its citizens must not be threatened into silence for opposing President Tinubu.

“If the authorities have credible evidence of a separate offence, they should present it in court and allow due process to take its course. They must not use other allegations as a cover to punish citizens for their political views.

“We call on Governor Zulum to withdraw any directive targeting peaceful protesters and to guarantee that no one will be arrested solely for expressing opposition to President Tinubu. A government confident in its record answers criticism with evidence and performance, not threats of arrest and detention.”
