2027: 'Tinubu can only win Abuja with rigging, Nigeria's name will be changed' – Primate Ayodele

The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has predicted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu could only win the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, in the forthcoming presidential election through rigging.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Ayodele said support for Tinubu was declining in the North, claiming that voters in the region were planning to vote him out of office.

He said God had given the North the power to decide who rules the country and that anyone without the region's support would most likely fail.

Ayodele also said Tinubu's reported choice of Abdulazeez Yari as his campaign director general would not change the situation, claiming that northern voters had already made up their minds.

He warned that unless the president took appropriate steps, voters in the region would do everything possible to remove him from power.

The cleric also identified some states where he claimed the ruling party faced challenges ahead of the election.

"The North hates Tinubu's candidacy, and even with Yari as DG, they are adamant to vote Tinubu because what is happening now is just nemesis. God has given the North the power to decide who rules Nigeria.

"It is wherever they decide that the pendulum will switch to. Tinubu will have problems in some northern states, including Adamawa, Katsina, Jigawa, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Bauchi. Abuja too is shaking, and it can only be gotten through rigging. Yobe, Gombe and Kebbi are divided.

"It can still change if the president knows what to do, but they are shaking already. Yari cannot do the mending. It's all about time, and the date for the election is not a victory date for Tinubu," he said.

Ayodele also predicted that Nigeria's name would eventually be changed, arguing that the name had been spiritually contaminated and was affecting governance in the country.

He claimed that the name had spiritual implications for the nation's leadership and could prevent governments from knowing what to do, even when their intentions were good.

"The name Nigeria is affecting leadership of this great nation. It will eventually be changed when God opens the eyes of some leaders. The name is contaminated and has serious spiritual implications on the nation.

"It will not make the government know what to do when they get to power, even if they have good intentions. The name doesn't have a good aura and will cause setbacks. You may not understand, but when it's time, people will know better," he said.

Plateau Assembly backs establishment of state police

The Plateau State House of Assembly has endorsed the proposed constitutional amendment to establish state police in Nigeria.

The Assembly cited persistent security challenges and manpower shortages in the Nigeria Police Force.

The lawmakers adopted the recommendations of an ad-hoc committee set up to consider the proposed amendment during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Naanlong Daniel.

The committee’s chairman, Prof. Theodore Bala Maiyaki, who represents Qua’an-Pan South Constituency, presented the report before the House adopted its recommendations and voted in support of the proposal.

Maiyaki said the amendment was necessary to address security challenges and strengthen policing at the community level.

“The proposed Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Sixth Alteration) Bill, 2026, seeks to provide a constitutional framework for the establishment of both federal and state police services,” Maiyaki said.

According to him, the framework would include safeguards for human rights, operational standards, accountability and coordination between the different policing structures.

“The proposed constitutional amendment has become necessary in view of the security challenges facing the country, the manpower shortage in the Nigeria Police Force and the need to strengthen local policing arrangements,” Maiyaki said.

He added that the committee considered the proposal timely because of the need to improve security arrangements and enable quicker responses to threats within communities.

The committee also noted that security was essential to the socioeconomic development of Plateau State and other parts of the country, recommending that the House support the proposed constitutional change.

The bill was transmitted to the 36 state Houses of Assembly on September 16, 2026, by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, for consideration and approval.

Commending the committee, the Speaker said the lawmakers had shown commitment to addressing issues affecting the security and development of the state.

The bill would proceed to subsequent stages of consideration in line with the House rules.

The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Adewole Adebayo, says Nigerians are tired of President Bola Tinubu and his 'failed government'.

Adebayo spoke on Tuesday while fielding questions in an interview on Trust TV.

According to Adebayo, Nigeria is in a critical and dangerous state due to the lack of trustworthy authority.

"Nigerians are tired of Tinubu and his failed government. He has taken the cake in terms of disastrous government.

"Because in 2015, they had gotten tired of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its boast that they would rule for 60 years. They were not satisfied with President Goodluck Jonathan then, and they blindly went with change.

"At the end of the day, the government that came under Muhammadu Buhari was worse than that of Jonathan, and of course, Tinubu has taken the cake in terms of disastrous government.

"Politicians are vicious people. That is why everybody wants to be president. So when you have ambition, you can expect that ego is also involved.

"For someone to wake up in the morning and say, "I want to be president of Nigeria, he must have a bit of ego," he said.
