Reports reaching DAILY POST from the camp of a former deputy governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Taofeek Arapaja, indicate that Arapaja has perfected plans to join the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It was gathered that the planned defection is coming a few hours after the former lawmaker met President Bola Tinubu.

Arapaja met Tinubu in Abuja two days ago, after which he also met some chieftains of APC from Oyo State at his residence in Abuja on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by the gubernatorial candidate of APC in the state, Barrister Sharafadeen Alli, deputy gubernatorial candidate, Mr Adesoji Adedeji and Oyo South Senatorial candidate of the party, Hon Aderemi Oseni, Arapaja’s loyalists and supporters; and other notable personalities from the State.

Sources at the meeting disclosed it centred on the planned defection of Arapaja to APC.

Both Makinde and Arapaja belong to the same faction of PDP until recent moves by Arapaja to join APC.

Arapaja has been a close ally of Makinde since the inception of his administration in 2019.

He had earlier served as National Vice Chairman (South West) and later served as Deputy National Chairman (South) for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

He also serves as National Secretary of a PDP faction loyal to Makinde.

Arapaja, who hails from Idi Arere in Ibadan, has been in active politics since the inception of this current fourth republic in 1999.

He served as Chairman of Ibadan South East Local Government Area between 1999 and 2002.

Arapaja represented Ibadan North East/ Ibadan South East federal constituency on the platform of PDP between 2003 and 2007 and later served as Deputy Governor when the late Adebayo Alao-Akala was the Governor between 2007 and 2011.

Youth leaders in Plateau State, under the aegis of City Boy Movement (CBM), have pledged to mobilise one million votes for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 General Elections.

The Plateau State Director of the City Boy Movement, Mr David Daser, in a statement on Monday in Abuja, cited confidence in the Tinubu administration’s policies and development initiatives.

Daser said that the commitment was made during separate strategic meetings convened by the CBM with members of the State Working Committee and coordinators from the 17 local government areas (LGAs) of the state.

He said that the meetings were organised to review the outcome of the movement’s recent national retreat and fine-tune strategies for grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 polls.

He said the engagements also aligned members with the “Operation Rock Solid” initiative, aimed at delivering one million votes for Tinubu’s re-election.

“I shared key takeaways from the recently concluded National Retreat, where we reviewed our direction as a movement and the responsibility before us.

“Together, we aligned with the Operation Rock Solid initiative, a statewide commitment to mobilise one million votes for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027,” he said.

Daser described the meetings as strategic planning sessions focused on strengthening the movement’s organisational structure and preparing members for effective grassroots mobilisation across Plateau.

The CBM director also commended the Federal Government’s expansion of the Nigerian Army through the creation of additional divisions.

According to him, the move will improve operational coverage, eliminate security blind spots and enhance the military’s capacity to respond swiftly to emerging security threats across the country.

He further highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects initiated by the Tinubu administration in Plateau, including the Akwanga-Jos-Gombe Road, Babban Lamba-Sharam Road, and the Mararaba Jama’a-Pankshin-Langtang-Mikang-Taraba Road.

Daser said that the projects are practical demonstrations of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and its commitment to improving infrastructure and connectivity.

He also commended members of the State Working Committee and the 17 LGA coordinators for their dedication to the movement’s objectives.

“The passion, unity and commitment demonstrated by our members give me great confidence that together we will build a stronger and more effective City Boy Movement in Plateau State.

“It will contribute meaningfully to the re-election of President Tinubu in 2027 under the platform of the All Progressives Congress,” he said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

2027: Vatsa vows not to back down on opposition to Muslim-Muslim ticket

Former Niger State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Jonathan Vatsa, has declared that no amount of harassment, intimidation or blackmail will force him to abandon his opposition to the Muslim-Muslim ticket.

He also commended Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for reportedly choosing a Christian as his running mate ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Vatsa, an APC chieftain, said Governor Sani’s reported decision to pick a Christian from the Southern Kaduna Senatorial District as his deputy reflected political maturity, fairness and religious sensitivity.

Speaking to journalists in Minna, the former APC Publicity Secretary in Niger State said the governor had distinguished himself from his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, by embracing what he described as a “faith-balanced” ticket.

According to him, the decision would promote peaceful coexistence, strengthen political inclusion and reassure Christians in Kaduna State of their place in governance.

“I want to commend Governor Uba Sani for this singular gesture towards the Christian community in Kaduna State.

He has distinguished himself from those who profess love for Christians publicly but sideline them when it comes to appointments and elective offices,” Vatsa said.

He urged Christians in Kaduna State to rally behind Governor Sani, insisting that the governor deserved their support for what he described as an inclusive approach to leadership.

Vatsa, however, reiterated his opposition to the Muslim-Muslim tickets adopted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, describing the arrangement as politically insensitive and unacceptable.

“I stand by my earlier condemnation of the same-faith ticket at the federal level and in Niger State. These decisions are politically insensitive and unacceptable,” he stressed.

Vatsa insisted that no amount of harassment, intimidation or blackmail would make him change his position, stressing that speaking against any form of marginalisation was a moral obligation.

“Even if you don’t like the messenger, you should take the message. You don’t go to church to sing choruses and dance with Christians and when it comes to appointments or elective offices, you marginalise them,” he said.

Vatsa maintained that he would continue to speak out regardless of threats, adding that as a pioneer member of the APC who sacrificed for the party ahead of the 2015 elections, nobody could intimidate him.

“Anything anybody thinks he has acquired to harass and intimidate others is temporary because when the time comes, we shall all leave with empty hands,” he further added.
