Sen. Plang Alleges Foreign Armed Groups Behind Bokkos Killings

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Labour, Employment and Productivity, Senator Diket Plang, has alleged that foreign armed groups, in collaboration with local accomplices, are responsible for the recent wave of killings in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

In a statement on Monday, Plang, who represents Plateau Central Senatorial District, described the attacks as “heinous” and a direct threat to the peace-loving people of the state. He said the violence has claimed lives, destroyed farmlands and homes in Mushere Chiefdom and other communities, and displaced thousands.

“It is evidently clear that the perpetrators of this heinous crime with dark objectives are trying to chase the people out of their ancestral homes for possible occupation, which has already happened in parts of the local government and other areas of the state,” Plang stated.

The senator said the armed elements have been active since April 2025, starting in Bokkos and spreading to other parts of the senatorial zone. He noted that despite engaging relevant government institutions and stakeholders, the attacks have persisted.

While commending security agencies for their efforts so far, Plang urged them to expand their operations and coordinate more effectively to prevent the attackers from gaining a foothold in any community. He also called for stronger collaboration between community leaders, vigilante groups, and residents, backed by active security support.

To address the crisis, Plang recommended:

  • Construction of road networks in affected areas to enhance troop mobility and aid farmers in Mushere.
  • Deployment of border patrols and establishment of permanent military outposts in strategic locations.

He pledged to leverage all legislative and diplomatic channels to ensure the safety of his constituents and support measures to restore peace to Plateau Central.

“I sympathise with the people of Mushere Chiefdom, Bokkos leadership, and the government of Plateau State in the face of the current circumstances,” Plang said. “I call on the National Emergency Management Agency, Red Cross, and all related organisations to address the mounting humanitarian issues caused by these security challenges.”

The senator’s remarks come weeks after Senator Pam Dachungyang, representing Plateau North, warned that ongoing attacks in his district were disrupting farming activities and threatening livelihoods.
