Police in Plateau foil kidnap attempt on community

Officers of the Plateau State Police Command have reportedly foiled an attempt by gunmen to kidnap some residents in the Bassa Local Government Area of the state.

The spokesman for the Command, Alabo Alfred, made the disclosure in a statement on Saturday.

The development came less than 24 hours after gunmen killed five persons in a separate attack which occurred in Fobur community, Jos East Local Government Area of the state.

The statement advised residents of the state to get the phone numbers of security officers within their areas and ensure that timely information is passed to the Police and other security and law enforcement agencies to enable them respond quickly whenever there is an incident in their areas.

The statement read, “In his bid to continue to fight crime and criminality on the Plateau, the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Bartolomeo Onyeka psc (+), has recorded another milestone achievement by repelling an attack from men of the underworld in Bassa LGA.

“On 22/07/2022, at about 2300hrs, a distress call was received by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Bassa Division, SP James Yakubu, from a concerned citizen that some unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers were operating at the residence of one Mark Inkasu.

“Upon receiving this report, the DPO mobilised his men and raced to the scene. On sighting the patrol vehicle, the hoodlums in their cowardly manner started shooting at the police personnel. In return, our gallant DPO and team engaged them fearlessly. Sensing the danger that was about to befall them, the hoodlums escaped into a nearby bush with bullet wounds.

“The CP therefore enjoined the residents of Bassa LGA to go about their lawful activities as normalcy has since been restored in the area. He further thanked all the community security help organisations within the area for given the Police the timely information that has helped in repelling the criminals.

“On a sad note, the CP wishes to use this same medium to condole with the good people of Fobur town, Fusa village and the families of the five persons who were killed by yet to be identified persons at Jos East LGA on the 21/07/2022. He assures the families of the deceased and the entire local government that efforts are on top gear to arresting the perpetrators of the dastardly act for them to face justice.”

Benin Club’s Ladies Golf Captain Joy Omorogiuwa Reveals Factors Behind Glamour Of 31st BCGS Championship

The ladies golf captain of Benin Club in Edo State, Mrs Joy Omorogiuwa has revealed several factors that made their 31st BCGS championship a successful event filled with glamour, Sports247 reports.

Speaking during the well-attended competition’s final on Saturday, Omorogiuwa disclosed that it was made possible through sleepless hours of planning and combined efforts from all the members.

She thanked everyone who joined hands in organsing a highly successful 31st BCGS Ladies Open, which was eventually won by Ehis Igbinadolor, as she retained her Queen of the Greens trophy by carding 234 gross over 54 holes.

En route to clinching the prestigious title for the second year running, Igbinadolor beat a strong field of top female golfers, as she carded 80 gross on day one, played 78 and 76 gross on days two and three to top the leaderboard ahead of Diana Osmond.

However, Igbinadolor’s victory did not come easy, as Osmond kept swinging hard until the last put, but her 237 gross was only good enough for runner-up spot, three shots adrift, while Grace Ogeili had a late push with 245 gross to place third and Destiny Okoh hit 248 to take fourth spot.

Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) immediate past president, Evelyn Oyome carded 255 gross to finish fifth, Juliet Ogunwa placed sixth with 264 gross, as Love Okoho got 267 gross to complete the top seven, while Deborah Emifoniye won the hcp 19-28 category with a total gross score of 282 over three days.

Emigoniye warded off pressure from Angela Uwabor with 282 gross and Peace Irabor was third with 297, while BCGS captain, Stephen Ebaretonbofa got 86 gross to win the special guests and sponsors’ category, with the vice-captain, Victor Oriasotie second on 92 gross and Matthew Chadzimura third.

At the end of it all, Omorogiuwa thanked everyone for turning up and gave gratitude to God for the day’s huge success as well as for giving the organisers favourable weather throughout the long line of activities that began on Wednesday.

“The glamour and celebration is undoubtedly a reflection of hours of planning, coordination, sleepless night and self denial of comfort by the various committees. I am eternally grateful,” an elated Omorogiuwa stated.

Sports247 gathered further that this year’s BCGS Ladies Open had over 100 female golfers in attendance from all across the country, while also maintaining its status as one of Nigeria’s longest-running women’s golf competitions.

Will the HomeView be Apple’s first smart home success?

Apple will announce a new smart home hub on Tuesday called the HomeView, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Over the past couple of years, we’ve seen multiple reports that Apple was working on a new smart home product, but now it seems the product has a name and a launch date. Gurman described the HomeView as a Siri-powered device with a display and an A18 chip, allowing customers to control their other smart home devices.

The HomeView will reportedly be available in two models — one designed for countertops and the other to be mounted on walls.

This would be Apple’s most serious bet on the smart home to date, after it failed to get much traction for its HomeKit software framework or its HomePod smart speaker.

Gurman reports that on Tuesday, Apple will also be unveiling updated versions of two other home devices, namely the Apple TV set-top box and the HomePod mini. Earlier this week, he said that Apple plans to announce a partnership with LG to create a smart lock, a thermostat, and a doorbell.
