The Kano State government has banned the administration of intravenous (IV) fluids and blood transfusions at patent medicine stores across the state.

The Acting Executive Secretary of the Kano State Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA), Khadijah Hussein-Sa’id, announced the directive during a sensitisation workshop for proprietors and medical directors of private health facilities in Kano.

Ms Hussein-Sa’id said patent medicine stores are legally classified as non-clinical retail outlets and are not authorised to perform invasive medical procedures, administer IV fluids, or conduct blood transfusions.

She said the directive is aimed at protecting residents from unsafe and illegal medical practices and strengthening the regulation of private health facilities in the state.

“Any patent medicine store or unauthorised facility found administering IV fluids or conducting blood transfusions will face immediate closure and other sanctions in accordance with relevant laws and regulations,” she said.

Demola Olarewaju, the Senior Political Assistant to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has described the party’s running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, as a statesman who knows when to fight hard.

Olarewaju said Amaechi knows when to put aside his personal interests for the larger agenda of removing President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Posting on X, he wrote: “Rotimi Amaechi is a statesman who knows when to fight hard and when to sheathe swords; when to be selfish and when to subsume personal interest for a larger agenda of kicking Tinubu out.

“Some people are only useful to themselves, and therefore useless to society and a coalition.”

The ADC had picked Amaechi as Atiku’s running mate after he lost at the party’s primary election.

Following his loss, Amaechi had contested the process, claiming that it was flawed.

But Atiku reached out to Amaechi and another aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, urging them to support him in his bid to become Nigeria’s President and salvage the nation.
