A herder who cut off the left hand of one Jeremiah Yan, a farmer in Lakushi community of Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau state, has been arrested by the Plateau State Police Command on Thursday.

The spokesperson for the police command, DSP Alabo Alfred, who gave the name of the herder as Abdulrahman Kaila, said the incident occurred on Monday in the farmer’s farm.

According to the spokesperson, “When police got the news, the commissioner of police instructed the DPO to go after the perpetrator and in a swift reaction of the DPO, the suspect was arrested and he gave us his reason for cutting the hand of the farmer.”

Narrating how he committed the offence at the state police command, the suspect said “I was grazing when the farmer stopped me and asked me to go back as the area where I was grazing is a rice farm. When I got back. He complained that his farm was destroyed by the cattle.

“I then pushed the cattle and before you know it, we started quarrelling. While we were quarrelling, I didn’t know how I cut off his hand. I did it out of my wish.”

Paul Meade, the Apple vice president in charge of the Vision Pro headset, is leaving the company to join OpenAI’s hardware team, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Meade also reportedly led the development of the AI-powered smart glasses that Apple plans to launch next year. The costly Vision Pro was not a hit, but Apple is hoping that more affordable smart glasses will help it compete with wearable devices from Meta.

Gurman frames this departure as a byproduct of John Ternus’ imminent elevation to Apple CEO, and of Ternus’ decision to shake up the hardware engineering team, which left some of the company’s vice presidents feeling like they’d been demoted.

OpenAI, meanwhile, is already working with Apple’s former chief design officer Jony Ive on an AI device that CEO Sam Altman has claimed will be more peaceful and calm than an iPhone, though reports last fall suggested the company was struggling to get the details right.

TechCrunch has reached out to Apple and OpenAI for comment.

Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, candidate in Delta North Senatorial District, Victor Ochei, has described the judgment of the Kogi Federal High Court concerning the registration of the party as a temporary setback.

Speaking on the issue on Saturday in Asaba, Ochei said he remains confident that the issues arising from the judgment will be resolved through the due process of law.

Ochei, who is a former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, said history had shown that temporary setbacks do not define the outcome of a just cause.

He posited that every enduring democratic movement has faced moments of trial.

“I join the leadership of the NDC to respectfully disagree with the judgment. I also acknowledge the position of the leadership of our great party to pursue every lawful and constitutional avenue in addressing this development, and I offer my unwavering support and solidarity as we collectively navigate this temporary setback.

“To my supporters, volunteers, political associates, sympathisers, and the good people of Delta North Senatorial District, I urge you to remain calm, steadfast, and focused. This is not the time for anxiety or discouragement.

“My aspiration has never been about politics for its own sake. It is founded on a sincere commitment to deliver quality representation, responsive leadership, and tangible opportunities for the sons and daughters of Delta North, beginning from our Senatorial District and extending to our people wherever they may be across Nigeria.

“That mission remains intact and will not be derailed by temporary legal challenges. I, therefore, encourage everyone to keep faith with the democratic process, continue strengthening our grassroots structures, deepen our engagement with the people, and remain focused on the bigger objective before us.

“Let no one be distracted. The ideals of justice, service, inclusion, and good governance that inspire our collective efforts are far greater than any momentary obstacle.

“I have absolute faith in the integrity of our judicial system and every confidence that, through the lawful processes available, this matter will ultimately reach a positive and logical conclusion for the party. Until then, let us remain united, hopeful, peaceful, and resolute” Ochei assured.
