Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang is not losing sleep over the N300 billion debt his administration inherited from the Lalong administration and the security challenges facing the North Central state. He spoke on how he will chart a new course for the state while receiving a proposal for a four-year strategic development plan from a group of technocrats in Jos, the state capital. KOLADE ADEYEMI reports.

Plateau State Governor Mutfwang has reiterated that he will not be deterred by the challenges he inherited from his predecessor, Simeon Bako Lalong of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor said the challenges confronting the state in various sectors are quite intimidating but that he is determined to succeed despite all the odds.

He spoke when he received the report of the transition committee in Jos, the state capital.

The governor said: “Throughout the campaign, we were under the impression that our debt burden was around N200 billion. Today, it is quite worrisome to hear that is over N300 billion. But, by the grace of God, the challenges we are confronted with are not insurmountable.

The Executive Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Council, Hon. Pirfa Jingfa Tyem, has called for transparency, factual reporting, and responsible public discourse amid growing discussions surrounding the council’s budgetary allocations and development projects.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Kum Precious, the chairman appreciated residents of Langtang North for their interest in governance and commitment to accountability, describing public participation as an essential part of democratic governance.

The statement, however, expressed concern over what it described as misinformation and misleading interpretations of budgetary provisions and project implementation circulating on social media and other public platforms.

According to the chairman, citizens have the constitutional right to ask questions and seek clarification on government activities, but cautioned that public conclusions should be based on verified facts and proper understanding of official records.

He noted that the approved budget of Langtang North Local Government Council remains a public document accessible to interested residents through the Plateau State Government transparency platform.

The chairman explained that a budget is primarily a planning and appropriation document outlining proposed projects, anticipated revenues, projected expenditures, and developmental priorities for a fiscal year.

He stressed that the inclusion of projects in a budget does not automatically imply that such projects have been completed, abandoned, or fully funded, noting that projects usually pass through stages including planning, procurement, mobilization, implementation, supervision, and completion.

The statement further clarified that several projects currently being discussed publicly are part of the 2026 fiscal framework and are presently at various stages of implementation.

Among the projects highlighted was the construction of the Supervisory Councillors Office within the Local Government Secretariat, which the council said is ongoing.

The chairman also disclosed that the procurement process for the solar streetlight initiative had been concluded, while arrangements were underway for shipment, installation, and deployment.

At Zamko Market, the statement revealed that fencing works were ongoing, while boreholes had already been drilled to support the construction of sanitation and toilet facilities aimed at improving hygiene and commercial activities within the market.

The council urged residents to distinguish between proposed, ongoing, and completed projects in order to avoid misconceptions and inaccurate public perceptions.

Hon. Tyem also reminded residents that he assumed office as Executive Chairman in October 2024, urging the public to distinguish between projects and obligations inherited from previous administrations and those undertaken under his leadership.

The chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prudent management of public resources, transparency, and delivery of projects across key sectors including education, agriculture, security, water resources, infrastructure, healthcare, youth development, and community advancement.

According to the statement, the administration has initiated several interventions since assuming office aimed at improving the welfare of residents and laying the foundation for sustainable development across the local government area.

The chairman further announced plans by the council to commence regular public updates in the coming weeks detailing ongoing and completed projects within Langtang North.

The updates, according to the statement, will include photographs, project locations, implementation status, timelines, and other relevant information to enable residents track progress and remain informed about developmental interventions.

Hon. Tyem assured residents that his administration remains focused on delivering impactful projects and sustaining transparency and accountability in governance.

He also appreciated the people of Langtang North for their vigilance, participation, and continued interest in governance, pledging to continue serving the area with integrity and responsibility.

The race for Showtime Bowl Series XIV glory reaches a boiling point tonight as four of the league’s biggest and most dangerous teams prepare for an unforgettable semi-final showdown at Showtime Arena, Meadow Hall, Lekki.

After weeks of intense competition, dramatic finishes, statement victories, and Wildcard destruction, the Showtime 2026 Season XIV Playoffs now enter their most decisive stage yet.

Only two teams will survive. Only two teams will earn the right to fight for the championship. And by the end of tonight, the road to the Showtime Bowl will look very different.

The opening semi-final features a heavyweight clash between the dominant Abia-Warriors and a fearless Ibom Raptors side desperate to rewrite history.

For most of the season, the Abia-Warriors have looked untouchable.

From explosive offensive displays to disciplined defensive performances, the Warriors have established themselves as the standard of excellence in Showtime football. Their unbeaten run and commanding victories throughout the season have turned them into the team everyone wants to beat — but few have managed to challenge.

And history strongly favors them once again.

The Warriors have completely dominated previous meetings against the Raptors, winning all ten encounters between both teams, including a crushing 53-7 victory in their most recent matchup.

But playoff football creates pressure unlike anything else.

The Raptors arrive at Showtime Arena carrying momentum after their emphatic 41-6 Wildcard victory over the Lagos Greenbacks. With confidence growing and belief rising inside the squad, the Ibom side knows this could be the perfect moment to shock the league and finally end the Warriors’ dominance.

All eyes will be on key stars like Happiness Abanikonda, whose ability to create plays through the air and on the ground could become crucial if the Raptors hope to pull off the biggest upset of the season.

Standing in their way, however, is a Warriors squad loaded with championship experience and elite talent.

Led by standout performer Joseph Williams, whose passing numbers and touchdown production continue to terrorize defenses across Showtime football, the Warriors enter tonight determined to protect their legacy and continue their march toward the championship game.

But if the first semi-final promises intensity, the second promises chaos.

The Lagos Knights and Lagos Rebels are set to ignite one of the fiercest rivalries in Showtime football history in a matchup already being described by fans as the “Lagos Civil War.”

This is more than a football game. This is pride. This is revenge. This is survival.

Both teams enter the semi-finals in terrifying form.

The Lagos Knights arrive after delivering one of the most dominant performances of the season — a ruthless 59-0 destruction of the Delta Braves in the Wildcard round. Their offense has exploded at exactly the right time, while their defense has become nearly impossible to break down.

Players like Jimmie Akinsola, Dabo Green, Anyaorah Lotanna, Kayode Ogundele, and Maudleen Julius have turned the Knights into one of the most complete teams left in the playoffs.

Yet the Lagos Rebels may currently be the most dangerous side in Showtime football.

After back-to-back blowout victories, including a commanding 44-0 demolition of Cross River Ikan, the Rebels are playing with swagger, aggression, and absolute belief.

Led by stars such as Oluwole Filani, Odudu Otu, AdeKunle Raphael, Akinade Rukayat, and Divine Eric, the Rebels have become a nightmare matchup for opponents and are determined to prove they belong in the championship game.

The rivalry itself adds another layer of drama.

While the Knights hold a slight historical advantage with five wins to the Rebels’ three, the Rebels claimed a thrilling 30-26 victory earlier this season — a result that still lingers heavily ahead of tonight’s rematch.

Expect speed. Expect emotion. Expect fireworks.

And once again, Showtime Flag Football stands at the center of Nigeria’s sporting spotlight.

From rising stars and passionate fan support to elite competition and unforgettable moments, Showtime continues to redefine the growth of flag football across the country while creating one of the most exciting sporting experiences in Nigeria.

Tonight is not just another playoff round.

It is a battle for legacy. A fight for survival. A collision between titans.

Four teams will enter Showtime Arena with championship dreams alive.

Only two will leave one step away from immortality.
