Daily Rail Service Resumes on Jos–Bukuru Corridor After One-Year Halt

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has resumed daily rail transportation on the Jos–Bukuru corridor, a year after the service was temporarily suspended. Operations officially restarted today, Monday, July 15, 2025.

The rail service, which originally began in early 2024 through a partnership between the Plateau State Government and the NRC, was introduced to ease intra-city travel, connect communities, and reduce transportation costs. However, it was halted after a year, pending an official flag-off for full commercial operations.

Speaking to Daily Trust in Jos, the spokesperson of the NRC Jos Station confirmed that the train will now operate four daily trips between the Bukuru and Jos Terminus stations, with scheduled stops at Old Airport and Dogon Karfe stations.

“The resumption is not due to any technical challenge,” the spokesperson clarified. “It was primarily to secure a date for the official commencement of commercial operations. Everything has been put in place, and the service is at no cost whatsoever to the state government.”

Passengers have been advised to arrive at the station at least 10 minutes before departure for proper boarding and security checks.

The NRC expressed optimism that the renewed service will contribute significantly to affordable urban mobility and community integration across Jos and Bukuru.
