Communications Minister Partners with Governor Mutfwang to Establish Tech Hub for Youth Empowerment in Plateau

The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has announced a strategic partnership with Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, to convert the historic Nigeria Standard building into a cutting-edge digital hub aimed at empowering youths and creating employment opportunities across the state.

Dr. Tijani made the announcement on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to the Governor at the Twin Theatre, New Government House, Rayfield, Jos. He described the initiative as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision to enhance digital infrastructure nationwide, aligning with Governor Mutfwang’s efforts to position Plateau as a tech-driven economy.

Highlighting Plateau’s selection as one of the pilot locations for the federal government’s planned deployment of 7,000 new telecom towers, the Minister said the move will significantly boost connectivity in underserved areas and support national security infrastructure.

“Your Excellency, we see in Plateau the key to Nigeria’s digital success,” Dr. Tijani said. “Jos, with its vibrant creative sector, is a natural host for this transformation. This hub will not only drive innovation but also offer global career opportunities for young Plateau talents.”

He emphasized the importance of fiber optics, satellite infrastructure, and digital skills development in building Nigeria’s ambition of a one-trillion-dollar digital economy. Dr. Tijani also unveiled plans for a Talent City Project in Jos and urged more Plateau youths to enroll in the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme—a national initiative to develop a globally competitive tech workforce.

Governor Mutfwang, in his response, lauded the partnership as a timely and strategic collaboration to strengthen the state’s digital landscape. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, innovation, and using technology to address security challenges—especially in border areas experiencing trans-Sahelian movements.

“With technology, we can deploy smarter, more efficient surveillance solutions instead of physical barriers,” he said. “This partnership reflects our shared goal of building a safer, more prosperous Plateau through digital advancement.”

The Governor appreciated the Minister’s visit, noting that he would depart with not only strawberries but also the full warmth and hospitality of the Plateau people.
