Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area in Plateau State, Amalau Samuel Amalau, has condemned the resurgence of violent attacks by suspected Fulani militias in the area, describing them as coordinated, barbaric, and a grave threat to peace and coexistence.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Amalau called on the Plateau State Government and security agencies to urgently intervene and implement decisive measures to halt the killings and protect vulnerable communities—particularly in Mushere Chiefdom, which he said has borne the brunt of recent violence.
“This is not just an attack on Mushere; it is an attack on the soul of Bokkos,” Amalau stated. “We cannot continue to watch our people be slaughtered and their livelihoods destroyed in broad daylight. Enough is enough.”
The chairman cited a fresh attack on Sunday in which a widow was killed and several homes, farmlands, and properties were destroyed. Eyewitnesses claimed that over 500 armed militias stormed the community in a well-coordinated assault, leaving widespread destruction in their wake.
Amalau expressed sorrow over the persistent loss of lives and the increasing displacement of residents, noting that the situation has heightened fear across affected villages.
He called on the Nigerian Army, Police, Civil Defence Corps, and community-based security outfits to step up their presence in the area and take swift action to neutralize the threats posed by the armed groups.
“We need stronger intelligence gathering, rapid response strategies, and the deployment of more personnel to vulnerable areas,” he urged.
The chairman reiterated the council’s commitment to working with relevant authorities to ensure the restoration of peace and security in Bokkos.
